An Easter Promise
If we but had the eyes to see
God’s face in every cloud,
If we but had the ears to hear
His voice above the crowd,
If we could feel His gentle touch
In every Springtime breeze
And find a haven in His arms
‘Neath sheltering, leafy trees.
If we could just lift up our hearts
Like flowers to the sun
And trust His Easter Promise
And pray, “Thy will be done”,
We’d find the peace we’re seeking
The kind no man can give
The peace that comes from knowing
He died so we might live!

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE
Spring Forward
Remember to turn your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, March 9th so that you will not be late for church on Sunday morning. The
clocks move forward while you’re sleeping at 2 am in the morning. While we
lose one hour of sleep, we gain longer and lighter evenings until the Fall!
Office is Closed for Good Friday
Please be advised that the office will be closed on Friday, March 29.
Our office will be open on Easter Monday, April 1st. We wish each
of our residents a blessed Easter.
Baking Orders
Any residents who would like to order baking, please note that order forms are
due on, Thursday, March 21 . You will find an order form enclosed with this
newsletter or you may pick one up at the office. All baking orders are to be
picked up on Thursday, March 28 between 1 pm & 2 pm at the chef’s kitchen
door or at the office.
Library Volunteers?
Once the Library, which is currently located on the 7th floor in our Providence Place building, is moved to the main floor of the ‘Continuous Learning
Centre’ we will be looking for volunteer attendants to assist with the set-up
for this room and on a regular basis to reshelve returned books. If you think
this would interest you, please contact your Activities Director, Darlene.
Special Thanks
We’d like to acknowledge and thank Kay Carleton (P-702) and Alice Russell (P-707)
who have kept the 7th floor library in immaculate condition for many years! You’ve
done an excellent job ladies! We also thank Marie Winkel who has, over the past
year taken on the task of sorting and overseeing the Dutch books within the library.
Abilities Centre . . . Did you know?
The Abilities Centre which is located at 55 Gordon Street in Whitby
(905-665-8500) has an amazing flat rubberized track that would make
an excellent walking surface for those of you who like to walk! If you
have a Whitby Seniors Services Card it’s also open to you for FREE:
Monday - Friday from 5:30 am - 10:30 am. Please note that a Whitby
Seniors Services Membership card (for ages 55+) is only $19.00 and
gives you access to Activity Centres and other services. Call 905-6681424 to inquire.

From The Board
Now that the shortest, but snowiest month is behind us, we can start thinking
about spring and the changes that we are already seeing by having more daylight hours.
During our most recent meeting the Board received for information and/or
approved a number of items:

First Quarterly Report for the Strategic Plan including a Market Study Report
and recommendations for DCH Retirement (Assisted Living) in the Bowmanville area

Revised terms of Reference for the Nominating Committee and Nomination Committee handbook and
annual Work Plan

Preliminary 2012 Financial Statements for all DCH entities

Specialty Care Contract for management consulting and operational services

Update on the office renovations and plans for the Continuous Learning Centre
Board members have also received a copy of the recently announced Seniors Strategy report titled “Living
Longer, Living Well”. This is a comprehensive report presented to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care,
with recommendations on how to help seniors stay healthy and live at home longer. This strategy, along
with the government’s Action Plan for Health Care, are important inputs into the Board’s planning for Long
Term Care and Assisted Living facilities.
We covet your support and prayers as we go through 2013.

From Residents’ Council
We were happy to hear that those residents who attended our Valentine
Dinner party had a good time and really enjoyed the dinner and our entertainer, Ron Moore who sang several Elvis Presley classics, including many
gospel songs made famous by Elvis. One resident commented, “You just
close your eyes, and you’d think it was really Elvis Presley singing.”
Resident feedback has suggested that most of you preferred the draw method for the allocation of seating
as opposed to the mad rush to sign-up for seating. Basically, everyone who wanted to sit together, got to
sit together, but as to which table in the room they sat at, this was decided by a random draw. The lucky
door prize draw winners for the evening were: Hendrika Sjouwerman, Anna Baron, Alla Powell, Sam
Jongsma and Thora Brown!
It’s hard to believe that it’s already March! Easter falls on the last Sunday of this month which is March
31st. Let us praise God for the great gift he has given us in the sacrifice of his son, Jesus Christ: “For God
so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but
have eternal life.” On Easter Monday, Wes Mills will be bringing us the Easter message in song, so be
sure to keep Monday April 1st at 3:00 pm open.
Several other entertaining evenings are being planned for this month. Be sure to check page 9 of this
newsletter for the details. For those of you who would like a special Easter meal, be sure to purchase a
meal ticket at the office for Thursday, March 28th. Chef Diana will be making a full turkey meal for lunch
this day!

For the Funny Bone
Maria came home from Sunday School on Palm Sunday and told her mother
that she had learned a new song about a cross-eyed bear named Gladly.
It took her mother a while before she realized that the hymn Maria had been
singing was really “Gladly The Cross I’d Bear”.
