Hudson Bay Mountain Resort – Uphill Travel Policy Hudson Bay Mountain Resort welcomes winter uphill travel enthusiasts by means of skinning and snowshoeing. In order to help provide a fun safe experience for both uphill and downhill guests on a 24/7 basis, all uphill travelers are required to follow Hudson Bay Mountain Resort rules. Land Use Hudson Bay Mountain Resort leases land from the Province of the British Columbia, through the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources via a Controlled Recreation Area License. The Controlled Recreation Area license gives the right to Hudson Bay Mountain Resort to control access and use by other persons within the defined boundaries of the Controlled Recreation Area. Hudson Bay Mountain Resort is responsible for the users of the CRA. Uphill Travel Pass All uphill travelers are required to have a 2015-2016 Uphill Travel Pass with photo ID and to sign a 2015-2016 Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement form before accessing open and designated uphill travel routes at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort. Signature of parent or legal guardian is required for minor children ages 18 and under on the Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Passes must be carried by all uphill travelers at all times whenever they utilize uphill travel routes on resort property, during both operating and non-operating hours. Please be prepared to present your pass to resort personnel upon request. There is no charge for an Uphill Travel Pass for anyone who has already purchased a 2015-2016 Hudson Bay Mountain Resort Season Pass. Uphill Travel passes are available at the Hudson Bay Mountain Resort Guest Service office on mountain and at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort office in Smithers, located at 3866 Railway Avenue, please check our website for hours of operation. For anyone who hasn’t purchased a 2015-2016 Hudson Bay Mountain Resort Season Pass, a 2015-2016 Uphill Travel Pass can be purchased for $50. Funds raised from the sale of the Uphill Travel Pass will be used for maintenance and upgrades of the Smithers Rotary Club Trail to Town. The 2015-2016 Uphill Travel Pass DOES NOT provide lift access either up or down the mountain Open Uphill Travel Routes Uphill travel routes will be made available at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort during the winter season as conditions permit. We will open uphill travel routes in line with our ability to effectively manage and operate all functions within the entire resort. Access and Parking for Uphill Travel Routes Uphill travel routes can be accessed from any of our parking lots. If parking overnight or arriving before 9am PLEASE DO NOT use parking lot 1 (at main lodge) as plowing operations are usually from 8-9am. Overnight parking should be on the high side of Parking lot 2. There is no parking at the Prairie T-Bar, please limit use of this DROP OFF ZONE to 30 minutes, per the posted signage. Park in compliance with posted signage, parking on roadways is not permitted. While Traveling Uphill and Downhill Before accessing resort premises make others aware of your uphill travel plans, including anticipated arrival and departure times. Charge your cell phone battery before you go and always travel with your cell phone. BE AWARE THAT ON-MOUNTAIN CELL PHONE SERVICE IS NOT ALWAYS AVAILBLE OR RELIABLE Always use the buddy system. It’s a good idea to travel with a party of at least three or more. If you decide to go alone, be sure to advise someone in advance about your activities. Wearing reflective clothing and a bright head lamp is mandatory if you will be on the mountain in low light or when it’s dark. It’s your responsibility to make yourself visible to operations personnel & all other mountain users. Your safety is directly affected by your judgment. Observe and follow the Canada West Ski Area Association Alpine Responsibility Code: http://www.skipatrol.ca/en/wpcontent/uploads/2011/03/ARC-clean-10.jpg Travel uphill only on designated routes indicated by uphill travel icons located beside the trail. Travel on the edge of the trail and in single file. Don’t stop in high traffic areas. Be alert and yield to all downhill traffic, including skiers and snowboarders. Dogs are not allowed on Up-Hill Travel Routes or runs during operational hours. Outside of these times, dogs are welcome, provided Pet Owners clean up after their pets, and ensure they are under control at all times. Resort and mountain operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Stay clear of all mountain operations and equipment, including, but not limited to grooming machines, equipment, snowmobiles and lifts. o Always yield to all resort personnel, mountain operations equipment, machines and vehicles. o Stay clear of all snow grooming operations. Be alert for warning beacons on vehicles: be alert for equipment and machinery. If you encounter grooming operations, stay off the trail. Be prepared for changes in weather and conditions. Nighttime conditions and weather are usually very different from conditions and weather during the day. Be alert to continually changing weather, visibility, surface conditions and terrain features. Anticipate numerous hazards and dangers including, but not limited to snow, ice, ruts, bumps, sheer drop-offs, bare ground, rocks, roots, stumps, trees, power poles, lift towers, grooming vehicles, snowmobiles, other skiers and riders, and many other natural and man-made objects. o Area Boundary If you decide to leave the ski resort premises and go beyond the ski area boundary, be aware that Hudson Bay Mountain Resort assumes no responsibility for safety of, or injury, death or damages to skiers or riders. Backcountry areas beyond the ski area boundary are not maintained or checked by ski area personnel Check the Hudson Bay Mountain Resort Trail Map to see ski area boundaries shown by a dotted red line. Emergencies DURING RESORT OPERATING HOURS: For first aid assistance during resort operating hours, report accidents to any ski patroller or lift operator. You can also stop at the first aid station located at the top of Panorama T-bar or the first aid station located adjacent to Guest Services Office. DURING RESORT NON-OPERATING HOURS: Ski Patrol is not present and will be unable to provide services to uphill travelers during non-operating hours. DO NOT count on ski area personnel to be available to assist you. Uphill travelers assume full responsibility for personal safety, and any injury, death or damages when traveling on resort premises during non-operating hours. In the event of an emergency during non-operating hours, uphill travelers must call 911. BE AWARE THAT ONMOUNTAIN CELL PHONE SERVICE IS NOT ALWAYS AVAILBLE OR RELIABLE.
