Calcite, t o u r m a l i n e and s e v e r a l l i m e s i l i c a t e minerals are' associated w i t h mineralized horizons. The best showing w i t h i n the g r i d a r e a o c c u r s w i t h i n c l a i m s WC # 2 4 and #26. H e r e , minor s u l p h i d e s o c c u r t h r o u g h o u t a n o r t h - s o u t h t r e n d i n g zone measuring up t o 1000 f e e t w i d e and 2200 f e e t long. breccias. Sulphides mainly occur i n skarned l i m y b a s a l t i c Higher g r a d e m a g n e t i t e - r i c h b e d s o c c u r l o c a l l y w i t h i n the m i n e r a l i z e d zone. Minor s u l p h i d e s , i n c l u d i n g p y r i t e , p y r r h o t i t e and c h a l c o p y r i t e w i t h associated magnetite, occur disseminated i n t h i n l y bedded a r g i l l i t e and l i m e s i l i c a t e s o v e r a 400 f o o t s q u a r e a r e a w i t h i n c l a i m s WC #48 and #50 i n t h e s o u t h e a s t e r n p o r t i o n of the grid. Also, a n o t h e r s m a l l showing of l i m i t e d e x t e n t o c c u r s i n s k a r n e d limy b a s a l t i c breccia i n the n o r t h w e s t e r n p o r t i o n of t h e g r i d on WC #10 and H12. 4 INDUCED POLARIZATION/RESISTIVITY SURVEY I n t r o d u c t i o n and Theory During t h e p e r i o d June 1 4 t o J u n e 18, 1972 a p p r o x i m a t e l y 7.5 l i n e m i l e s of induced polarization/resistivity s u r v e y i n g was completed on t h e " c e n t r a l g r i d " o f t h e WC c l a i m s . The surveyed a r e a encompasses copper showings exposed on c l a i m s WC #24 and # 2 6 i n t h e n o r t h - c e n t r a l p o r t i o n of the g r i d and on WC #48 and H50 t o the s o u t h e a s t . G.M. The s u r v e y was e x e c u t e d b y AMAX p e r s o n n e l w i t h DePaoli o p e r a t i n g t h e r e c e i v e r . A dipole-dipole configuration was employed u t i l i z i n g a two hundred f o o t d i p o l e l e n g t h and r e a d i n g o n l y the f i r s t s e p a r a t i o n ( a = 200 f e e t , n = 1). The t e r m induced p o l a r i z a t i o n means e l e c t r i c a l p o l a r i z a t i o n ( i . e . s e p a r a t i o n of c h a r g e s ) induced b y a n a p p l i e d e l e c t r i c field. The c a u s e of t h i s p o l a r i z a t i o n i s changes i n the m o b i l i t i e s of i o n s w i t h i n a rock. A t the i n t e r f a c e s b e t w e e n z o n e s of d i f f e r e n t m o b i l i t i e s , e x c e s s e s or d e f i c i e n c e s of i o n s o c c u r ; the c o n c e n t r a t i o n g r a d i e n t s d e v e l o p e d oppose the c u r r e n t f l o w and cause a p o l a r i z i n g e f f e c t . When m i n e r a l g r a i n s b l o c k t h e p o r e p a s s a g e s of r o c k s and a c u r r e n t i s a p p l i e d , a c o n c e n t r a t i o n o f i o n s b u i l d s up a t the e l e c t r o l y t e ( w a t e r ) - m e t a l i n t e r f a c e w h i l e a w a i t i n g a n e l e c t r o c h e m i c a l r e a c t i o n which must o c c u r b e f o r e t h e e l e c t r i c c h a r g e c a n be t r a n s f e r r e d from a n i o n i n the e l e c t r o l y t e t o a f r e e e l e c t r o n i n the m e t a l . energy a t an e l e c t r o l y t e - m e t a l This s t o r a g e of e l e c t r o c h e m i c a l i n t e r f a c e i s t h e most i m p o r t a n t c a u s e o f induced p o l a r i z a t i o n i n r o c k s . I n the p u l s e - t r a n s i e n t o r t i m e domain method t h a t was employed, t h e i n t e r f a c e s w i t h i n t h e rock w e r e p o l a r i z e d b y applying a steady direct c u r r e n t . The c u r r e n t was t h e n a b r u p t l y t e r m i n a t e d and measurement was made of t h e s m a l l d e c a y i n g v o l t a g e caused by the p o l a r i z e d charges r e t u r n i n g t o e q u i l i b r i u m . I n s t r u m e n t and P r o c e d u r e AMAX's p o r t a b l e i n d u c e d p o l a r i z a t i o n u n i t was used f o r 5 t h e survey. The equipment c o n s i s t s of t h e IPR-7 Newmont-type r e c e i v e r ( 1 5 pounds) and t h e I P C - 7 m i t t e r (13 pounds). 2 5 w a t t b a t t e r y powered t r a n s - The r e c e i v i n g d i p o l e c o n s i s t e d of a 200 f o o t l e n g t h of w i r e c o n n e c t e d t o p o r o u s p o t s f i l l e d w i t h a s a t u r a t e d s o l u t i o n of CUSO The t . r a n s m i t t i n g d i p o l e employed a 200 f o o t 4' length of w i r e connecting four f o o t s t a i n l e s s s t e e l rock e l e c t r o d e s . Survey p r o c e d u r e r e q u i r e d f o u r men equi-spaced 200 f e e t a p a r t along t h e l i n e . The advance man p r e p a r e d t h e e l e c t r o d e s i t e f o r t h e lead p o t e n t i a l e l e c t r o d e by digging a small hole. When moving t h e a r r a y the l e a d man advanced the p o t e n t i a l d i p o l e w i r e two hundred f e e t . 'I!he second man o p e r a t e d t h e r e c e i v e r . P i c k i n g the 20 m i l l i s e c o n d c o n t o u r a s b e i n g s i g n i f i c a n t t h i s body h a s a n extension trending southeast. The s o u t h e r n most body i s more e q u i - d i m e n s i o n a l i n shape and i s centered a b o u t c o o r d i n a t e s 22.5, 153. These c h a r g e a b i l i t y a n o m a l i e s a s d e f i n e d by t h e 20 m i l l i - second c o n t o u r g e n e r a l l y i n d i c a t e 1s t o 29/0 m e t a l l i c a l l y p o l a r i z a b l e m a t e r i a l b y volume.
