THE SOLID ROCK CHURCH Winter Haven, Florida POSITION DESCRIPTION – YOUTH MINISTER Purpose Statement for TSRC Youth Ministry: Serving God by building ambassadors for Christ through a spirit of Christian fellowship. I. Position Title: Youth Minister II. The Person: Is committed to Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior. Is a baptized adult, not younger than 21 years of age. Adequately passes all background check inquiries including, but not limited to, a good credit history and automobile driving record. To have as foundational core values: o that God’s word is the absolute truth, o to maintain a disciplined Christian study/devotional life. Display a personal aptitude for spiritual, emotional, social, and physical wellness. An attitude of flexibility and adaptability in the face of the changing moods, plans, and directions common to working with youth and parents. A resilient and persevering spirit that is not easily discouraged or frustrated, contributes to stability and longevity in this position. A sense of humor and energetic personality are also very helpful. V. Qualifications: Accepts the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Mk. 12:29-31) as primary purposes of the Church. The Youth Minister must have a sense of call and passion for ministry with youth that is grounded in an understanding and appreciation of the Anglican theology. He/she should be a person whose commitment to Christ and the Church is evidenced in daily living and work, must have a servant’s heart, and a desire to lead today’s youth to a more intimate relationship with Him through discipleship, activities, and a holy lifestyle. Has s a history of activity and leadership in youth ministry. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. He/she must possess good communication skills with youth and adults. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills and an ability to identify and foster leadership in adults and youth. II. Reporting relationships: Reports to the Rector. Position Summary: The purpose of The Solid Rock Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and it is acknowledged that the youth of our community need someone to provide a well-balanced program for youth (6th thru 12th grade) that will seek to win the lost to Christ and to help those who are Christians to mature in Christ and discover the personal gifts and abilities with which God has blessed them. The one word that describes and entails the concept of youth ministry is the word “discipleship”. IV. Major Duties and Responsibilities: To incorporate the Youth Ministry program as a function within the church body. Minister to the needs of the youth at The Solid Rock Church on campus, in schools, at home as a supportive resource to the parents and in any time the need arises. Develop and grow a team of adult volunteer youth leaders who share in the core values mentioned above. Train and equip these leaders, so that they may further develop relationships with the youth. Facilitate Youth group (6 thru 12 grade) meetings/small groups weekly to further develop a sense of community within the body of Christ, encouraging growth for those youth who do not yet have a relationship with our Lord and Savior. Involve youth in ministry (outreach) projects. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility of the Youth Ministry budget. Follow all policies and procedures set forth by The Solid Rock Church. Attention to detail is essential, along with self-motivation and prioritizing skills. Must exercise discretion, confidentiality, generosity and professionalism in all dealings. Always adheres to all Anglican Mission in the Americas and TSRC abuse and misconduct prevention guidelines. Even a breach of one of these guidelines may constitute grounds for immediate dismissal from the ministry and termination of employment. Work as a team member with all staff, as well as with members of the congregation and Vestry. Understands and accepts the canonical authority that resides with the Rector of the parish and agrees to work cooperatively with the Rector at all times; shall be ultimately responsible to the Rector in all matters relating to the performance of Youth Minister duties.
