READING
Read Carol’s blog. Then read the sentences on the next page.
Write T (true) or F (false).
Hi everyone and welcome to my new blog. I’m writing this from our new home
on Cortes Island, Canada. I can’t believe we’re finally here! It’s so beautiful
and there’s so much to tell you all.
There aren’t many people on the island but everyone is very friendly and
helpful. Our neighbours are Pat and Ellen and they have a small shop where
they sell everything! It’s very useful.
Our new house is by the sea – yes, can you imagine! When we get up in the
morning, we can sit outside and look at the water while we have breakfast.
There’s a large garden around the house with lots of fruit trees (apples, pears
and plums) and there are lots of flowers too. The beach is in front of the house
and the two dogs love playing in the water – and of course the children do as
well!
I’m sure you all want to know about the house. Well, here goes. There’s a huge
living room and kitchen which is one big room really. We’ve got some of our
furniture from England but we want to buy some new furniture too. Dan has
his old armchair and the children have some of their favourite things too. Elly
has her bed and Mark has an old table for his computer. I think they like having
things from England. I’m happy with new things like the fridge and cooker.
They are so big! It’s fantastic, so I’m spending a lot of time cooking. The house
has four bedrooms so there’s one for visitors, one for us and then the children
have one each. There are also two bathrooms so we have one and the children
have the other one – that way no-one gets annoyed!
Please come and see us soon!

Read this email from Lauren.
Hi!
How are you and how’s school? I’m glad it’s the holidays now because I really love
Christmas. It’s a really big celebration here and everyone buys presents for their friends
and family.
The main day is on December 25th. That’s when we open our presents. In my family,
we open them in the morning but some people open them in the evening. Christmas lunch
is huge! We have a big turkey and then after that we have special Christmas pudding
and then Christmas cake. At 3 o’clock everyone watches the Queen on television. She
always speaks about the year that is almost over. It’s one of our traditions!
Then on the 26th, Boxing Day, we start again and spend the day eating and
drinking!
What’s your favourite festival? Please write and tell me about it.
Love
Lauren
Now write an email to Lauren. Tell her about your favourite festival. Use Lauren’s email to help you. Answer these questions: What’s the name of the festival? When is it? What do people do? Why do you like it?
