tter Newsle CAP-C January 2011 January is Literacy Month! Family Literacy Challenge Wednesday Winter Pick up your literacy challenge packages today! Each time you and your child read a book together, write down the name of the book and the author on one of the white circles of paper. Bring your circles in to programs to build your snowman in the children’s area. At the end of the month, the child with the tallest snowman will win a prize! January 5, 12, 19 Fun Make n’ Takes Each Wednesday we will be doing a different children’s craft activity for them to make and take home. Hosted by Jill McFaddenBartley. Thursday Crafts This month we will be making Medicine Pouches and Lavender Pillows. And you’re always welcome to bring your own projects in! Moms’ Indoor Walking Group Aboriginal Moms Group 1st Friday afternoon of each month. Aboriginal, Inuit, and Metis moms and children are welcome to Thursday Afternoons join us for an afternoon Dust off those sneakers of playing, chatting, and join us for an hour and cooking. Family Dinner and Storytelling Night: Jan. 19 Family Bus Trip to The Plunge water park in Collingwood Join us for a yummy family dinner, followed by an evening of storytelling! Cost is $5 per person (children 2 and under are free). Meet at M’Wikwedong at 12:00pm (eat lunch before you come!). The bus leaves the Centre at 12:15 and will return at 5:00pm. January 14 Page 2 CAP-C January 2011 Newsletter Clothing and Children’s Book Exchange Monthly Program Participation Challenge For the month of January, each time you attend a CAP-C program, your family’s name will be entered in a draw for a beautiful wooden sled! The draw will be held on Monday, January 31st, during our Bannock-Making. Wednesday, Jan. 26 For literacy month, we will be accepting gently-used children’s books during our quarterly clothing exchange. Clean clothing and books may be brought to the centre in clear bags starting on January 24th. Please give all donations to a staff member! Come out to the exchange and find a new wardrobe and re-stock your children’s book shelves! Dental Health for Babies Outdoor Bannock presentation: Jan. 12 Making: Jan. 31 Bundle up and learn how to make bannock (or scone) over an open fire. It’s a yummy treat, and kids will enjoy making their own bread! Outdoor play activities will also be available for younger children. Best Wishes, Robyn!!! Join us during the Young Moms Group for a presentation on dental health and development in infancy. New Programs Coming in February! Keep your eyes open for a new program starting next month: Cooking with Babes, a nutrition and cooking program for expectant mothers and mothers with babies up to 18 months. Also, our Children’s Drumming Circle will resume in February. It will be every Wednesday morning.
