INCREASED IMPACT ON CHILD
EXPLOITATION THROUGH COOPERATION
AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING
The year 2015 has been a comprehensive and dynamic year. Over the course of
it we were acknowledged as experts on child exploitation in several new ways.
This has enabled us to help the children who so desperately rely on our support in
difficult circumstances even better. Of course, we cannot achieve all this alone. It is
only through close cooperation and the combined efforts of our donors, volunteers,
sponsors, partners, institutional donors and the Dutch National Postcode Lottery that
a just world, in which all children have the opportunity to live in dignity, is not unrealistic.
In 2015 we offered help to 428,574 children. How and where did we do this? It is our
pleasure to illustrate this information below.
On behalf of all employees at Terre des Hommes, we would like to express our sincere
gratitude for your contribution.

Simulation experience of the life of
domestic slave Amani
Securing a safe future for refugees
Our ambassadors, the pop-band 3JS, visited
camps for Syrian refugees in Beiroet where
Terre des Hommes operates programmes for
refugee children. The visit was broadcast via
SBS 6 (a Dutch TV channel) and received
coverage in national newspapers.
Thanks to 3D technology and a 360° view, the
everyday experiences of 12-year-old domestic
slave Amani are brought vividly to life in this
simulation. Her isolation and imprisonment
combined with daily intimidation and abuse make
the harshness of her life more real than ever. As
this was a global first for Terre des Hommes, it
received a lot of attention in the national and
international press.
Child labour in Tanzanian gold mines
Photo expo ‘13-in-a-dozen’
The ‘13 in a dozen’ photo exhibition of Corbino is
part of the WATCH project and addresses the issue
of sexual exploitation of children. After the launch
at the Beurs van Berlage, the exhibition toured the
Netherlands garnering an enormous amount of
free publicity in local and regional media.

Musa has to deal with extreme labour conditions
daily in Tanzanian gold mines. We employed a
creative PR stunt with street art “#goudkoorts”,
paired with an e-mailing and online campaign to
raise awareness nationally about this issue.

Terre des Hommes shops
45 Terre des Hommes shops in the Netherlands have
collected more than 1,2 million euros in 2015. We have
introduced changes such as restyling and implementation
of a new corporate identity and an upgrade of our product
range. In addition, we have developed several initiatives
with professional partners to increase the impact and
effect of the shops.

‘I believed in a bright future in Thailand.’
17-year-old Lee was a victim of child trafficking
in Thailand. Attracted by a promise of well-paid
work, she left home for Thailand.
‘After 15 hours, I arrived at a house with a factory.
After a meagre breakfast, I had to start working
immediately: clean the house, wash, cook, take care of
18 dogs and then work in the factory. At the end of the
day I also had to clean the factory. I had to work all
week, from four o’clock in the morning until late in
the evening.
I never received any salary, was abused and always
yelled at. I was locked up in the house and was not
allowed to leave. I decided to escape. I was sheltered
by the VFI in Laos. Thanks to them I have my own
sewing shop and am able to earn my own income’.
Lee is now an ambassador and warns young people to
protect them from the dangers of child trafficking.
