Scope and Content of Collection
This collection includes Spanish documents and correspondence between the colonial administrators of Monterey, San Jose,
and Villa Branciforte, California, 1797 to 1850.
The collection also includes two documents in English from Commodore R.F. Stockton.
Documents are mainly handwritten in Spanish, with the following exceptions: Two press printed proclamations from 1844;
79 typed envelopes with English translations; 5 sheets of 35mm black and white copy negatives.
Numbers 71, 196, 368, 550, 607 & 636 are missing from the collection.
Arrangement
The documents were previously assigned numbers by the donor (1-661) and are arranged in order by those numbers.
