It’s Pantherette night at Beef O’Brady’s today! Dine in or take out anytime between
11am and 10pm, tell them you are helping the DCHS Pantherettes and we will receive

This past Saturday, the NJROTC competed at the Ohio Valley Inter-Scholastic
Orienteering Championship, located in Taylorsville State Park. The Varsity team
consisting of Mark Cannon, Jacob Goldman, Evan Swift, Logan Sayre and Myles Harvey
finished in second place. Individually, Mark Cannon finished 4th, Jacob Goldman 6th,
Logan Sayre 7th and Myles Harvey 10th. The male JV team also finished second. This
team consists of: William Roby, Bobby Barnett, and Bailey Freels. Individually,
William Roby finished 2nd, and Bobby Barnett finished 6th. Other team member
finished… Lucas hood 6th in JV, and Madison Kelly finished 3rd in female JV
competition.

I am pleased to share the results of this Saturday's speech tournament. Our students were
very successful. As a team we finished 4th overall in the Murray High School Speech
Invitational. Listed below are the individual results. I've also attached pictures of the
team and finalists.
Individual results of the December 3 Murray H.S. Speech Invitational:
Max Smith captured first place in both extemporaneous and impromptu speaking. He
earned straight ones the entire tournament, never being beaten by any competitor. He
also finished 2nd in informative speaking.
CeCe Phillips advanced to finals in ALL FOUR of her events (that's the maximum events
in which one is allowed to compete). She was tournament champion in storytelling. She
was second in broadcast announcing and poetry interpretation. And she finished fifth in
prose interpretation. (If you are a Jim Gaffigan fan, ask to hear her prose. If you like
Gary Larson, ask for her storytelling. Both are very entertaining.)
Gwen House finished 5th in informative speaking. She and her duo interpretation
partner, Logan Mills, placed 4th in finals(if you need to shed some tears ask to see their
performance).
Easton Crisp finished 3rd in storytelling (do you like humorous stories about ducks? This
one will delight you.)
Jasmyne Post placed 2nd in original oratory.
Nicolas Warder placed 6th in humorous interpretation (ask him what the math curse is).
Also breaking into finals and competing for the first time were Daniel Styke (6th in
broadcasting) and Sidney Boarman (7th in oratory).
Several who did not advance to finals were next out or 7th place. Those students were:
Calli Whitmore in dramatic interpretation, Camille Moore in humorous interpretation
(and also first time competitor) and Gwen House in programmed oral interpretation.

Congratulations to Taylor Palmer! She received a bronze medal on Saturday in the
Special Olympics state bowling competition!
Congratulations to Amie Morris (cvms 8th grader) who represented DCHS bowling team
Sunday. She was awarded a bronze medal for bowling at the Special Olympics state
games.
REMINDERS:

Attention junior students, GSP applications are due to Mrs. Powers in the guidance office
before the end of the school day on Monday, December 5th. This includes the completed
application with signatures and 2 letters of recommendation (1 from a teacher and 1 from
a community member).

For many years, the BOP has done a Christmas Cook on the Saturday before break to
prepare hams and ribs. This has become quite popular and feedback over the years on the
quality has been consistently positive. If you are interested in purchasing some hams or
racks of baby back ribs, FIND A BAND KID AFTER TODAY. If you never see any of
our kids, then email me and I’ll make sure you’re able to place your order. We have to
have all orders by no later than Friday morning.

These are slow smoked right in front of DCHS by a team of experts.

THESE MAKE AWESOME CHRISTMAS PRESENTS - just don’t try to
get them to fit in a stocking!

The end of the Fall 2016 is quickly approaching. The deadline to return the textbook(s) is
Tuesday, December 13th by 3:00 PM. If you bought your textbook with your own
money, the student may receive cash back. However, if DCPS is responsible for the
purchase, the student still needs to return the textbook to the bookstore.

Josten’s has provided a rather lengthy list of seniors who have not
ordered their caps and gowns. The deadline to order is December 16th. Please see Misty
Boarman in students services for more information.
Attention Juniors the Washington Youth Tour contest deadline is approaching. Please
don’t miss the deadline of December 30th. You just need to be a junior and be a Kenergy
customer (your parents). You can fax or mail in the application. The essay isn’t due
until January 15th!
It was wonderful receiving 12 essays from Daviess County High School Juniors last
year – and you had WINNERS – Jacob Howard, Shelby Hite, Olivia Warren and
Jesslyn Watson – AND another DCHS student got the Alternate Seat – Shelby Cecil

Washington Youth Tour is a 7-day, all-expense-paid trip to Washington, DC. Kenergy
sends six students from its service territory each summer.
Attached is a poster, an information sheet and an application. And here is a link to a

 Eligibility: Student must be a high school junior with at least a 3.0 overall GPA
and their primary residence must receive electricity from Kenergy.
 To participate in the contest, students must submit their application by
December 31, 2016.
 Then write a 1,000-word essay about anything they are passionate about, and
send it via email to [email protected] by January 15, 2017.

Craft Academy will be hosting one more on campus event for students to visit with us
and learn more about our program. If you have a student who is considering applying for
Craft Academy, or a student who is working on or has completed their application, we
invite them, along with their families, to Morehead State University to meet Craft
Academy staff and current students. We will be doing our presentation, as well as a
campus and Craft Academy tour. Interested students may register online at


Libraries are a great source of information and our library here at DCHS is no
different.
Did you know we carry DC yearbooks dating back to 1926? We also have scrapbooks
with newspaper clippings dating back to 1958! When you are planning your next class
reunion or family reunion (wouldn’t it be fun to have a photo of Uncle Bob playing
basketball), or even if you are doing some genealogy, stop by the DC library and take a
trip down memory lane!


Washington Youth Tour
Each year, Kenergy selects six delegates to send on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., titled the Washington Youth Tour
(WYT).
A judge’s panel chose the co-op’s six delegates and one alternate in January.
The Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives coordinates this trip. You may read more about this tour, including an
itinerary, on the association’s website and/or watch the 2014 WYT video.
Students visit every major monument, cruise the Potomac River, tour the Holocaust Museum, spend a day at the Smithsonian, tour
Capitol Hill, hear outdoor concerts, meet their Congressmen and much more.
To be eligible for WYT, students must:



Live in houses powered by Kenergy. (Whether students live with grandparents or other members of their families does not matter, as long as the house
is powered by Kenergy.)
Be 11th-graders.
Earn a minimum 3.0 overall GPA.
To apply, students must:
Complete the Application for 2017 WYT before Dec. 31, 2016. In addition, students must:




Mail the application to Jeanette Weedman, Kenergy, PO Box 1389, Owensboro, KY 42302-1389. The application must reach Kenergy’s office no later
than 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2016.
Attach a copy of their high school transcripts to the application.
Attach a copy of their home’s most current Kenergy bill to the application.
Write a 1,000-word essay on any subject about which they are passionate. Past winners’ topics have been about life on the farm, love for a
grandmother, sports, FFA membership, teen pregnancy and a love for reading, among others. Judges are free to use the topic as part of their selection
process, so choose wisely.

Essays should not be attached to the application. Essays should be e-mailed separately to Jeanette Weedman at [email protected]. Only
e-mail submissions will be accepted.
Essays are due by midnight Jan. 15, 2017.
Typed essays only. Double spaced. And 12-point Times Roman font only, please.
Essays should have the student’s name, high school, address and phone number typed on the upper right corner of the first page. (This information will
not be given to the judges — only to Kenergy administrative staff who prepare the essays for judging.)
Judges may request personal interviews as part of the process.
Kenergy announces winners in March.
All WYT delegates must go to Frankfort for an overnight trip in April. Kenergy pays for this trip as well. If a student cannot attend the Frankfort trip, he or she will
not be allowed to go on the Washington trip in June.
WYT does not coincide with the Governor Scholar program.
