DESCRIPTION
ViatranModels509,709and809arepressuretransmittersdesignedspecificallyforoilfieldserviceapplications.Dependingonthe
model,thesetransmittersprovideeithera4‐20mA(509),0‐5VDC(709)or3mV/V(809)signaloutputproportionaltopressure.The
hammerunionpressureconnectionandlowprofiledesignmakeitidealforuseatthewellsite.Additionalfeaturessuchasfield
calibrationmaketheViatran"X09"Seriesaleaderinoilfieldpressureinstrumentation.
FIELDCALIBRATION
TheX09SeriesTransmittersareprovidedwithauniquefeaturewhichpermitsfieldcalibrationtobeperformedbyelectronically
simulatingpressure.Poweringthecalibrationterminals(Model509)orconnecting(shorting)thecalibrationterminals(Models709
and809)producesasignaloutputequivalenttoapproximately100%offullscalepressure.Thiscanbeusedtoadjustthegainonthe
user'smeterordataacquisitionequipment.Thetransmittershouldbeconnectedasshownbelow.
GENERALREQUIREMENTS&CAUTIONS
Note:Thisisonlyapartiallist.PleaserefertotheInstallationDatasectionofthismanualforspecificrequirements.
1. Allelectrical&pressureconnectionsshouldbe compatible with the model specifications as outlinedintheInstallation Data section
ofthismanual.
2. Installationshouldoccuronlyafterelectrical(inputpower)andlinepressureisverifiedasbeingoffandatzero.
3. Theproduct'sinternalelectricalcircuitryisisolatedfromcaseground.Itisnotrecommendedthatthecaseorgroundoftheunitbe
connectedtotheinput,outputorcalibratepinsoftheproductorwiringsystem.Groundloopsandlinenoisewillaffectthe
product'sperformanceandwillinmostcasescauseinternalelectricalfailure.
4. Allproductsshouldbeprotectedfromdirectorcontinuedexposuretofluidsattheelectricalconnection.Itisrecommendedthatfor
productsinstalledinareaswherethepotentialforcontaminationattheelectricalconnectionispossible,protectivemeasuresbe
takentoeliminatepossibledeteriorationoftheproduct'selectricalconnectionandcorrosionthatwillimpedeproductperformance.
5. Atnotimeshouldanobjectbeinsertedintothepressureportorpressedagainstthesensingareatodeflectthesensor(totestor
simulatepressure),asonsomemodelspermanentdamagetothesensingdiaphragmmayoccur.
6. NeverRemovethetransmitterwhenitisunderpressure,ifitishot,orifitexposesnoxiousgases.
HANDLING
Althoughtherearevariationswithintheseriesofsensors, the nominal weight of the assembly is about5.5lbs. Thisis of significant size
andahandleisavailabletofacilitatehandling.Highsurfacetemperaturescanremaininplaceandtheunitshouldbecheckedbefore
removingtheunitfromserviceifitwasoperatedathightemperatures.Suitableglovesarerecommendedforhandlingtheunitunder
thoseconditions.Therearenosharpedgesassociatedwiththeinstrument.
INSTALLATIONREQUIREMENTS&CAUTIONS
1. TocomplywithCErequirementsforelectromagnetic compatibility, the transmitter case must beearthedbythe ground lug atthe
connector.
2. Itisrecommendedthattheconnectorcoverbeplacedontheproduct'sconnectoraftereachuse.Simplecleaningandremovalof
foreignmaterialintheconnectorwillincreasethelifeandoperationoftheproduct.
3. Theincludedcarryinghandleandconnectorcovershouldbeusedwhentheproductisbeinghandledortransportedbetweenlocations.
4. Installationoftheunitisaccomplishedbyplacingthepressuretransmitterintothehammerunionpressurefittingandsecuringthe
unitbytighteningthehammerunionnut(Fig.1)overboththeunitandpressurefitting.Onceinstalled,checkforleaksandadjustas
necessary.
5. Wheninstallingthepressuretransmitter,handtighteningofthehammerunionnutisrecommended.Useofahammertotighten
thehammerunionnutisdiscouragedbecauseinadvertentblowstothetransmittermayresultindamage.Toensureawatertight
sealbetweentheadapterandsensor,theO‐ring,shouldbeinspectedandreplacedifneeded,wheneverthetransmitteris
disassembled.(Figure2)
6. Wheninstallingtheunittothepressureconnection,careshouldbetakentoavoiddirecthitstotheunit.Adirecthitfroma
sledgehammertotheproductitselfcouldcauselatentfailuretotheproduct.Directhitscanresultinthelossofretentionclips,
failureoftheelectricalconnectororelectronics,orbendingofthetopassemblyfromthebodywhichwouldallowsensorcavity
contamination.Inallcasesthiswouldbedeterminedasanon‐warrantyrelatedproductfailureandrepair.
7. Productfastenersmustbereplacedwhenfoundtobemissingorbroken.Sparefastenerkitsareavailable
fromViatrantomaintainthesealoftheproduct.Iftheproductisoperatedwithmissingorbrokenclips,the
potentialforsealfailureisconsiderable.Inallcasesthiswouldbedeterminedasanon‐warrantyrelated
productfailureandrepair.

INTENDED USE AND MISUSE
TheinstrumentisdesignedforusewithmaterialscompatiblewithInconelX‐750.Iffluidsthatarenotcompatibleareused,accelerated
corrosionratesarelikelytobeseen. Thiswillresultinprematurefailureofthediaphragm.
MAINTENANCEANDREPAIR
AllViatrantransmittershavebeendesignedtofunctionfreefromroutineorscheduledmaintenance.Simplecleaningoftheelectrical
connector,pressureportthreadsandpressurecavityonanasneededbasiswillprovidemanyyearsofsatisfactoryperformance.
Protectingtheproductfromcontinuedexposuretomoistureorfluidsattheelectricalconnection,breatherarea(modeldependent)will
eliminateprematureinternalfailureoftheproduct.Generallyanytimetheproductisremovedfromservicetheconnectorandpressure
portthreadsshouldbecleanedandthepressurecavityflushedwitha316SSand/orO‐Ring(materialmodeldependent)compatible
cleanertopreventmediabuildup.Duringthecleaningprocessonlyasoft,lint‐freeclothisrecommended.Neveruseacoarseorstiff
bristlebrushtocleanmediafromthediaphragmsurface.
Itissuggestedthatthecalibrationbeverifiedonausage dependent schedule. If the product is incontinuousservice7days a week, then
calibrationverificationmaybenecessaryevery6to8months.Iftheproductisinalabtestenvironmentamorelenientverification
schedulewouldbeappropriate.Inallinstancestheperformanceoftheproductwilldependontheindividualapplicationorprocessin
whichitisinstalled.Morecontinuedusagewouldrequireashorterperiodbetweencalibrationverificationandproductmaintenance.
Ifaproductisperceivedtobeexhibitingproblems,it can be returned toViatran for analysis and/orrepair.Itissuggested that only
Viatranpersonnelattemptrepairoftheproduct.Anydamageresultingfromcustomerdisassemblywouldresultinalossofcoverage
underthewarrantypolicy.AllViatranproductsareabletoberepairedatminimalcostifsimplecleaningandprecautionsaretakeninthe
handlingandapplicationoftheproduct.Olderproductsreturnedforrepairareupdatedtocurrentspecificationsunlesstherepaircost
wouldoutweighthecostofanewreplacementmodel.Productsreturnedforrepairshouldincludeinformationonthepersontocontact
forrepairquoteapproval,theindividualtocontactifViatran'stechnicalstaffrequiresadditionalinformationduringanalysis,andabrief
descriptionoftheproblemassociatedwiththeproduct'sfailure.
WARRANTY
ViatranCorporationproductsshallbefreefromdefectiveworkmanshipand/ormaterialforaperiodoftwelve(12)monthsfromdateof
shipment,providedthatViatran'sobligationhereundershallbelimitedtocorrectinganydefectiveworkmanshipand/orreplacingany
defectivematerialF.O.B.destination.IfinspectionbytheCompanyofsuchproductdoesnotdiscloseanydefectofworkmanshipor
material,theCompany’sregularchargeswillapply.Thewarrantycarriesnoliability,eitherexpressedorimplied,beyondourobligation
toreplacetheunitwhichcarriesthewarranty.Thiswarrantyisinlieuofallotherwarrantiesofmerchantabilityorfitness.Noallowance
willbemadeforanyexpenseincurredforcorrectinganydefectiveworkmanshipand/ormaterialwithoutwrittenconsentbyViatran.Unit
mustbeshippedtotheCompany,transportationprepaid,andareturntrackingnumbermustbereferencedonthepackagetoassure
acceptanceatourshippingdock.Prices,specifications,anddecisionsaresubjecttochangewithoutnotice.
Thiswarrantyisvoidiftheproductissubjectedtomisuse,accident,neglectimproperapplication,installationoroperation.Thiswarranty
isvoidifpriordefectsinmaterialsorworkmanshiprepairsaremadebyanyoneexceptViatranoritsauthorizedserviceagency.
REPAIR
Iffailureoccurs,thesensorshouldbereturnedtothefactoryforinspectionandtesting.Ifthefailureiscoveredbyourwarrantypolicyas
statedabove,theunitwillberepairedasnecessaryandreshippedwithoutdelay.Sensorsusuallynotcoveredbywarrantycanbe
repairedwithintwotothreeweeks(afterapproval)forapproximately20‐60%ofthepurchaseprice.Simplerepairscanoftenbemade
foraminimalcharge.Arepairiswarrantedninety(90)daysfromrepairdateunderconditionsoforiginalwarrantyperiodunless
supersededbyoriginalwarrantyperiod.Toreturnaunit,pleasecontacttheCustomerSupportDepartmentforaReturnTrackingNumber
at1‐800‐688‐0030.TheunitshouldbesenttotheattentionoftheRepairServiceDepartment.
