Designed to meet these objectives: Language • Students will develop vocabulary. • Students will match antonym pairs. The Opposites Vocabulary Board is a great way to teach antonyms—hands on! Students simply choose an illustrated card, place it on the board, and then use stretchy loops to connect pictures of two words that are opposites. The set includes 12 cards with 120 different vocabulary words and pictures, so students get practice with a wide variety of antonym pairs! The easy-to-use matching board gives students a fun way to match antonyms and learn new vocabulary, and the guide comes with an answer key, so work can be checked easily! What’s Included • Pegboard • 10 stretchy loops • 12 illustrated cards Using the Board Before letting students work with the board and cards on their own, model how to use them. Place an illustrated card on the board, fitting the holes over the pegs. Point out each picture on the card and ask students to name each one. Explain to the students that they will be using the stretchy loops to match the words and pictures that are opposites. Point out and read the first word in the left column on the card. Then, tell students to look at the words in the right column. They are looking for a word that means the opposite of the word they just read. Read each word in the right column until you find the one that is correct. When you find it, stretch a loop between the two words. Continue until you have matched all 5 antonym pairs on the card. Allow volunteers to help you find antonym pairs and use the stretchy loops. When students understand how to use the board and cards, place the materials in your language learning center. Allow the students to use them for independent reinforcement. Encourage students to find all the antonym pairs on one card, and then move on to another one. We have provided an answer key on the back of this guide. ©2009 Lakeshore (800) 428-4414 www.lakeshorelearning.com LL102 Ages 4+ Printed in China Answer Key fast — slow asleep — awake above — below big — small empty — full 2. stop — go up — down inside — outside happy — sad closed — open 3. black — white young — old clean — dirty day — night warm — cool 4. open — shut tall — short on — off new — used uphill — downhill 5. front — back in — out pull — push rough — smooth curly — straight 6. sit — stand short — long wet — dry skinny — fat left — right heavy — light woman — man inflated — deflated loud — quiet part — whole 9. new — old bright — faded few — many near — far unfolded — folded entrance — exit neat — messy smile — frown light — dark under — over 12. fire — ice broken — fixed start — finish whole — pieces soft — prickly 1. 7. 8. laugh — cry rainy — sunny unplugged — plugged wrapped — unwrapped round — square 10. hot — cold together — apart frozen — melted wide — narrow same — different 11.
