We are well into the second half of the term and it is still raining! We a ttempted to do the jumps on
Wednesday 8th of March but unfortuna tely were rained off. However, we did manage to complete them on
Thursday 9th March. My apologies for not being able to communica te the specific ti mes of the jumps but we
were trying to complete everything before the rain started again.
Congra tulations to all the children who jumped and six long jump records were broken, well done! The resul ts

CHANNEL OF COMMUNICATION
The c hannel of communication refers to the way informa tion flows within an organisa tion. Plea se remember,
if you have a complaint or query, please go directly to the person/ teacher concerned. If the i ssue i s not
resolved, then see the head of the department or myself. The last resort should be the need to contac t a
Board member. This correct procedure will hopefully alleviate confusion and animosi ty.
GRADE ONE AND NEW PUPILS’ EARS AND EYES SCREENING
These tests for grade one and new pupils will take place on Tuesday 28 th Marc h and Wednesday 29 th Marc h
by Russell from Avondale I Care and John from John Evans. The cost will be $15.00 for the audiologist’s
test and $5.00 for the eye screening test. Any pupil who is found to possibly have a problem will then be
referred to their rooms for a full assessment. Informa tion and payment details to follow.
COMPUTER ROOM
Thanks to Mr Riz Khan and the SDC for reva mping our computer room The children now face the screen and
can enjoy learning in a comfortable environment.
CROSS COUNTRY
The tea m tried hard a t Bryden School but found the course quite tough. However, on Friday 3rd March the
A and B cross country tea ms participa ted in the Three Woods Competi tion a t Lilfordia. It was wonderful to
see the c hildren trying their best and we were delighted with their efforts. Many of the children i mproved
their posi tions f rom last yea r, some even by one hund red places, this is outstanding!

In the Overall Shi eld our Girls A ca me 8th and our Boys A ca me 13th giving our A tea m 9th place. This i s an
excellent ac hievement and I hea r i t is the first ti me we have come in the top ten! Well done to all the
runners and to Mrs Bezuidenhout for training the tea ms. Thanks also to Mr Banda, Mr Ti moni, Mrs Ferreira
and Miss Blake for helping at the competi tions and to Mr Wilbert Nya muzinga for driving the bus so
carefully. Thanks also to pa rents who helped with transport. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
VOCAL AND INSTRU MENTAL EISTEDDFOD
This has started and we had three clarinetists playing on Tuesday 7 th March. I was so proud of them, they
looked smart, played well and were able to keep thei r nerves under check. Well done to Danie Smuts, Hanaa
Khan and Jordan Ferreira and to Mrs McCloud for teaching them. We look forward to listening to the
soloists and the choirs.
There ha s been a change in transport a rrangements dropping off children a t Twin Rivers for the
performances. If you are a ttending the Choir performance on Thursday 16th March please ta ke note of the
following notice from the Na tional Insti tute of Allied Arts: We are concerned tha t pa rents will miss watching their children perform unless they are made aware
of the parking si tua tion a t Twin Rivers School. Plea se could you send out a notice along these lines:Parents – if you are planning to watch your children sing in the choir a t the Eisteddfod at
Twin Rivers please be aware tha t there is li mi ted parking within the sc hool grounds.
PARKING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED ON THE FIELD. The Allied Arts commi ttee
requests tha t you give yourselves plenty of ti me to park on the side of the road s leading to
Twin Rivers or make use of the REPS car park and then walk to the hall. The choirs are
always popular and attract a large audience – please do wha t you can to a void having to rush
and put pressure on the ladies manning the entrance.

PURIM
A lovely Puri m celebra tion was held today. Thank you to Mrs McCormick for organising this festival and
showing the children a clip of the “Feast of Esther”. The costumes, including the staff, were wonderful.
OPERATION WINTER WARMTH
Harare Women’s Interna tional Society, with the co -opera tion of Sharon, is holding thei r annual appeal for
Winter Wa rmth. The Society would be grateful if each child could donate at lea st one i tem of gently used
warm clothing or a blanket. The Society is doing the collection this term in order to distribute the i tems to
the needy a t the beginning of winter, al though i t will still collect nex t term for May and June. The donated
items should be brought to school where they will be collected by a member of the organisa tion. The
Society would like to tell you tha t i t is sure tha t the receiving children will be warmed, not only by the
clothes and blankets, but also by the knowledge tha t the more privileged children of Zi mbabwe have not
forgotten them.
