CHEMICAL EFFECT OF ELECTRIC CURRENT GENERAL OBJECTIVES The students will be able to recall example of good & bad conductors. The students will be able to recognize liquid that conduct electricity. The students will be able to discriminate between liquids which are good &bad conductors. The students will be able to classify liquid materials as good & bad conductors. The students will be able to give new illustration of liquids which can conduct electricity. The students will be able to give scientific reason for glowing of bulb in some liquids. The students will be able to record the list of material & the observation. The students will be able to perform experiments with reasonable speed & accuracy of electric circuit. CONCEPT Examples of solid good conductors & bad conductors of electricity. Liquids which can conduct electricity are good conductors of electricity. Liquids which cannot conduct electricity are poor conductors of electricity. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE Examples of the good & bad conductors of solids and also with the knowledge of the electric circuit diagram. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS Copper wire, wooden ruler, Plastic ruler, Steel ruler, Spoon, Rubber band, Glass, Paper, Lemon juice, Honey, Milk, Soft drink, Tap water, Sugar water, Distilled water, Ethanol, Salt water, Vinegar. SET INDUCTION Teacher distributes the worksheet to the students MATERIAL Bulb glows Bulb doesn’t glows Copper wire Wooden ruler Plastic ruler Steel ruler Spoon Rubber band Glass Paper Based on worksheet teacher introduces the topic “ChemiCal effeCts of eleCtriC Current”. DEVELOPMENT Activity 1:- Teacher performs the experiments of the conductivity of the solid materials. MATERIAL Bulb glows Bulb doesn’t glows Copper wire Wooden ruler Plastic ruler Steel ruler Spoon Rubber band Glass Paper Based on this teacher explains the electrical conductivity through solids. Activity 2:- Teacher now performs another experiment with different liquids to show liquids as good or bad conductors of electricity. MATERIALS Does it conduct electricity Yes No Good conductors Poor conductors Lemon juice Honey Milk Soft drink Tap water Sugar water Distilled water Ethanol Salt water Vinegar Based on this teacher explains the good and poor conductors of electricity in liquid and also explains the term chemical effect of electric current. EVALUATION Q.1) Answer the following question. a) What do you mean by chemical effects of electric current? b) What are good conductors? Give example of good conductors of liquid. c) What are pure conductors? Give example of pure conductors of liquid. d) Why the bulb doesn’t glow when it’s poor/bad conductor? e) In case of a fire, before the firemen use the water hoses, they shut off the main electrical supply for the area, and Explain why they do this.
