Revenge of the Tree By Elizabeth – Gr. 7 The trees were living. They had eyes that were huge and comical like – sort of like some „cute baby‟ eyes that I never understood. Their branches reached out to grab one of the „hoodlums‟ that were spraying some words on the brown bark. „Yo tree, wuzzup homie? I bet y‟all hate it when I do dis,‟ were one of the sentences that the local „hoodlums‟ had sprayed on the trees. Suddenly, its huge branch like arms reached out, grabbed the person by the shoulders and flung him about just enough to know not to mess with the „homie‟. „DO NOT MESS WITH THE TREES!‟ The tree roared angrily. „FOOL!‟ It was weird, watching the scene behind a bush. My breath was caught as I saw „da tree‟ turn towards my direction. „WHOL GOES THERE?!‟ The tree growled menacingly, narrowing its comical eyes as he stormed towards me with its huge roots. I inhaled and exhaled like some sort of monk who was meditating – no offense to them of course. Creeping away silently, I made very sure not to make any noise, but as if they could sense vibrations, another one started stomping towards me in a huff. „Those hoodlums‟, one tree muttered in fury. „Always spray painting „hoodlum‟ language on TREES!‟ „Fools‟, the first tree agreed, nodding its rectangular head. „They don‟t even own the new gangsta shoes that I‟ve seen in those – What do you call it? Ah ..Shops!‟ I used that time to sneak away stealthily, and did a skill roll as I tumbled over the cliff. Time to show some love to our trees, I thought as I watched the trees advance towards the dude. As well as considering to end my hoodlum career. The Boy who Planted a Tree By Andrew – Kindergarten One day, a long time ago in Canada, there lived a boy named Max. He had a mom, dad, brother and sister. They all lived in a castle with a really big back yard. Max had some seeds and he tried to plant a bush but nothing happened. Then he tried to plant some flowers but that didn‟t work. He tried to plant a tree and it grew to 20 feet tall. On and on he planted more trees. One day he realized he had so many trees that he made a tree fort. After he built the tree fort he went in it. Little snowflakes started to fall and when they touched the tree they magically came to life and started dancing, and the boy‟s mouth dropped in amazement and then mittens magically appeared on the branches. The boy went inside to tell his mom the amazing thing that has just happened but she wasn‟t there. In fact nobody was there. But all of them had already seen the trees and they started to dance too. Then to add to the amazement, a gift appeared under one of the trees and the card said thank you, and the trees danced away. In the box was a book and the title was called the boy who planted a tree and it had pictures of all of them and the events that had led up to it, and the family went inside for some hot chocolate and put the book on the mantle and they all lived happily ever after. How the Zedonk got its back white by Ayla – Gr.6 Long, long ago in a jungle, Zack the zebra was bathing in his own glory. “I love the way I look” he said. His friend was a mouse named Mo. “You do look great” Mo said. One day Mo and Zack went walking through the jungle. “I don‟t think you could get any more wonderful!” Mo explained. “Yes, yes, I know!” answered Zack. The two walked over a bridge and stopped under a cliff for lunch. Zack ate some grass. He walked under the cliff. One of the jealous zebras came up at top of the cliff. “Now I will be the prettiest zebra ! Mwa Ha Ha!” he cackled. He had a bucket of cactus juice mixed with moss. It was like bleach, sucking the color out of everything it touched. “Now to dump this on Zack and everyone will think he‟s a donkey!” He tipped the bucket over the cliff. A drop hit Zack. “Hey Mo! Is it raining?” “No, I don‟t feel anything!” Mo answered. The bucket was tipped further over the cliff and more bleach flowed out. “Ahhhhh….!” Screamed Zack. “What happened?!” wailed Mo, running over to Zack. “My – my stripes! GONE” whimpered Zack. “Oh No!” squeaked Mo. Zack was crying! He couldn‟t even think about what it was like to not be the most popular zebra in the jungle! Now he looked like he was wearing big, ugly, striped socks. “I guess I‟m just going to have to live with it” he admitted. “Wait” yelled Mo, maybe we can paint them back on!” “Yeah! Let‟s try it” Zack shouted. Mo left for 5 minutes then returned with a big green leaf. It was cupped and was holding the black, thick liquid. It was bubbling and made Zack a little bit scared. “I don‟t know about this!” whined Zack. “Come on! It‟s only paint!” explained Mo. “Okay, fine!” Mo picked up a fern leaf and tied it around a stick with a vine. He then dipped the end in paint and painted stripes on him. They walked back to the herd but there was one problem … it started to rain. “Noooooo!” screamed Zack. “Noooo! My paint!” yelled Mo. Zack ran up to a cave. He pulled a banana leaf over his bare back. “Zack … that looks even weirder” said Mo. “Darn! You‟re right!” They walked back to the herd. “Haha! You look like you‟re wearing ugly socks!”. “Loser….”! Is what they heard for the next month. Soon Zack got used to it. The name-calling, everything. One day he woke up and realizes something ….he liked being different! “I‟m not boring!” Zack said to everyone later that day. Everyone looked at him as if he didn‟t know what he was talking about. The next day other zebras were asking him about how to make the bleach. They also realized that they wanted to be different too. Zack said “No” to all of them. “But we want to be like you!” they cried. “Too bad” he said “I guess I‟m just special!‟ And that‟s how the Zedonk got half of its body normal. The End. Indian Monkeys By Noah & Aidin – Gr.5 Once upon a time a monkey named Joan Smith lived in a beautiful tree house in India. Her father was very rich because he worked at a banana shop. One day Joan‟s father brought Joan on a walk through a shabby little street. There were some poor monkeys in rags there so Joan said “Father, why is everything so ugly?” Her father replied, “These monkeys are very poor. They can‟t afford nice houses and pretty clothes.” After that she returned home. At her tree-house she said, “When I‟m older I want to build a big house for the poor”. Joan had a friend that was called Adam. He was her best friend and they would play forever. Adam taught Joan to read every single book in the library. Joan liked to read and she remembered everything that was in the books. Joan grew up and studied medicine, but one day her dad died. She got sad, so sad that she couldn‟t study. She got over it and went back to the poor place. She built a house in the middle of the poor spot. She said that every poor monkey was welcome to come to her tree-house. More and more monkeys came and more and more happiness came and all the poor monkeys were not poor any more. Lilly’s Story about Trees By Lilly – Kindergarten Hello my name is Lilly and this is a story about my childhood with trees. The big tree that I always played around. I love to play around the trees. The birds chirping while I play from day to day. I play tag all day long with my friends. The trees protect me from the rainfall. The leaves falling from trees. Jumping on piles and piles of leaves. The trees look bright and beautiful on winter days. I take naps underneath the trees with friends. The park has so many kids and trees. As I play with kids at the forest park. Going around the jungle gym. Hiding behind the trees as we play hide and seek. Sleeping inside our one tree house. What a bright beautiful color of brown. Big brown tree house. The kids playing and laughing as mothers watch and laugh at their kids. What a fun and great view. The trees make it all look beautiful. The big tree is marvelous and wonderful. The day at the park was terrific. Maggie’s story about Tree houses By Maggie – Kindergarten My tree house is pink and purple. I built my tree house with glue, wood and paint. It looks awesome. I had chopped down a tree, to make the tree house, but got the glue from Home Depot. I had gotten the paint from my art supplies. My tree house is 100 feet tall. I need a ladder to get up there. I use a slide to get down. It looks so cool inside. It got couches and everything, even an ice rink for me to play hockey. I play in it everyday. It‟s only a 2-minute walk from my house, woo! It even has a Christmas tree in it. It‟s also yellow and it has a rainbow. It even has a great view and it‟s also very big. True Perfection By Nia Wagner and Cailin Fraser – Gr. 5 A long time ago a school was built. It was built through snow and through sun. When it was finished it was the most desirable school ever built. Ten years after the school was built a mom named Lindsey had recently lost her husband. She and her son Steve decided to move and get a fresh start in Ohio. When Steve got there he got a free scholarship to the school. On the first day of school Steve decided to try out for the cheerleading team, but when he got there the cheerleading coach laughed. “Nice joke kid”, she said, but Steve would not budge, so she gave him a slip and he had to go to the principal‟s office. When he got there the secretary told Steve to sit down. About 10 minutes later the principal came, Steve and principal Fishwort talked. He said, “No boy should try out for a cheerleading team, now go!” The next day Steve made a petition, but nobody would sign it, so he scheduled a meeting with the principal for the next week. When the day came around it seemed like just yesterday he had booked the meeting. When he got there they spoke for about 3 hours. The secretary got really nervous, but when they came out the principal had a huge smile on his face. He had lifted the rule. His first announcement was that Steve would be the new cheer captain. When Steve got home his mom asked him how school was. Steve said “nothing has true perfection, but in time you will see it‟s ok to be different.” The Intruders By Alexandra Batten Gr. 7 The weather was disgusting. Cassie was walking through the local art gallery. She stopped at a photo that she liked. It was a picture of several animals with cherubs sitting in front. In the background were several Europeans talking. But there was something wrong. In the bottom left-hand corner was a little star that had been taped on to it. Cassie ran her hand over it. In an instant, there was a sound of rushing wind, and Cassie was thrown into the picture, as if an invisible rope was pulling her. She landed face down in the grass. It took a moment for her to realize why she was lying face down in a painting from a hundred years ago. Then Cassie remembered the symbol, and sat up right away. What Cassie saw made her jump in surprise. The animals were staring at her. Then the lion spoke. “What is your name?” Cassie stared, surprised that the lion could talk. “You can talk?” she asked, as if hoping he would say no. “Of course I can. Now what is your name?” “Cassie,” she muttered. What on earth did the lion want? The lion cocked his head at her and then said, “My name is Raphael. I would like you to do something for me. It might be a bit difficult, but I am positive that you can do it” “What is it?” Cassie asked, puzzled. Raphael nodded to the Europeans, “Get rid of them,” he said. Cassie didn‟t argue. She just nodded and walked toward them. This was the only way to get out of the picture. Cassie tapped one of the men on the shoulder. “Excuse me, but I heard you needed assistance,” Cassie said, making it all up. “Yes. We want to know how to get out of here. The animals scare us. Do you know a way?” Cassie was surprised, but she said, „Yes, I do.” In the distance, she could see the frame of the picture. She walked toward it. The Europeans followed. They fell out the picture and ran off. Cassie turned around and saw that the animals were smiling. Every day after that, Cassie went to see the picture. How Fish Got Their Fins Lauren Grey Gr. 5 Long, long ago in the deep ocean lived a fish with no fins. He couldn‟t swim as well as all the other fish. All the fish said, “you‟re a slow poke, hurry,” everyday. He always went home and said to his mom, “nobody at school likes me”. One day they had a field trip to a gallery. His teacher always told the class to never get separated. The next day was field trip day. He packed his bag with some shrimp and seaweed. Later that morning was field trip time. The teacher told them once again don‟t get lost and watch out for the gang of sharks. The gang of sharks were the town bullies. There were three, Thrasher, Killer and their leader, Phil. They always got into trouble. When they reached the gallery they had time to look around. The fish took this time to have a snack. He took the shrimp and seaweed out. The group moved on when he was still eating. He finally finished and tried to find the group but was distracted by a beautiful sight. It was a sunken boat. He was nervous and scared to go in but he did anyway. He entered the boat through the porthole and there they were - the gang of sharks, the toughest meanest thing around. “Oh no, I‟m all by myself” he said. He swam into a cove for protection. The sharks swam in they heard a noise from the cave. But they ignored it. They swam around looking at the scenery. When the fish yelled “ah” the sharks followed the noise from the cave. They went in the cave and saw the little fish sitting there. “Looks like we‟re having fish for dinner”, Phil said. The fish tried to float away but he was trapped by a big rock. The sharks got closer and closer and the fish kept trying but still could not budge. He looked behind him. Nothing! Looked at his scales. Nothing! Then he looked beside him and saw these wonderful things he had never seen before. He zoomed past the sharks and back to his group. The fish never saw anything like it. He was the fastest kind in the class now. He decided to call them fins. That is the story on how fish got their magical fins. The moral of the story is treat people the way you want to be treated. I hope you enjoyed my story on how fish got their fins. Every fish went through this. Thank you, hope you enjoyed it.
