We are very excited to
have 2 Pickle-Ball Courts
at the Recreation and
Sports Complex at Leopold Lake located on Route
30 in June. The courts
are located on one of the
basketball courts next to the Skatepark on the first
level of the complex and are open to the public FREE
of charge. If you are not familiar to the game, it is a
cross between badminton, tennis and ping pong. The
nets are lower (34”) and it is played with paddles and
a wiffle ball. The lower net, ball weight and the fact
that the balls have to bounce before volleying, make
it more accessible to people of all ages and abilities,
while still being competitive. We have a great group
of people who are organizing and enjoying the courts.
During the winter months, the group plays at the
North Fayette Community Center on Mondays 7-9 PM
and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10:30 AM. Once
the weather gets nice, there will be outdoor play at
Leopold on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 PM and
on Saturdays at 9 AM. If you would like to be put on an
email list of pickleball players, please call Darlene or
Stephanie at the township office.

CLEAN-UP
Computer And Appliance Recycling
MARCH 18TH, 10 AM – 2 PM
Findlay Township began its Computer and Appliance recycling program with JVS Environmental in 2008. Since that time we have seen quite a few changes in our computer and appliance recycling – from when we only had 40 residents interested in recycling,
to when we had to pay $1 per screen inch to turn in a
television, to our latest event where we collected over
18,000 pounds of equipment from over 200 residents…
enough to fill 3 trucks! Each recycling event we have
held since 2008 we have continued to increase the
amount of computers, televisions and appliances that
are being recycled and keeping them out of the landfill. However, State regulations have made recycling
difficult on the companies and agencies that do all this
recycling work. Some recyclers are now charging to
collect electronics and televisions. This is because the
manufacturers of electronics are supposed to pay to
have their equipment recycled, but the manufacturers
pay by the weight of equipment from the sales in the
two previous years – forgetting that one old television
weighs more than six new ones! Since Findlay Township has worked with JVS Environmental for years,
JVS has agreed to accept all of our computers, monitors, printers, scanners, laptops, non-Freon appliances
(microwaves, washer, dryers, etc.), lead acid automobile batteries, cell phones, telephones, keyboards,
mice, and radio equipment for free. Televisions will be
accepted at this event for free – one per vehicle only.
Going forward, JVS may have to start charging a fee
again for television recycling, so if you have an old
television that you’re thinking of getting rid of….now is
the time! Our next “Computer and Appliance Recycling
Day” will be held on Saturday, March 18th from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 1271 Route
30. Additionally, appliances with Freon will be accepted, including dehumidifiers, for a $15 fee. Disposable batteries are now being made by the manufacturers to be disposed of in the trash and are safe for the
landfills. JVS will not be able to accept florescent bulbs
or television tubes removed from the cabinet. Please
note, recycling items will only be accepted during the
hours of the event and are not to be left at the building
prior to the event. For more information or if you have
questions, contact Cynde at 724-695-0500.

eggs may be hiding in the park. Findlay Township
residents, preschool through 5th grade are welcome to

The Annual Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, May 27th from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The event
takes place at Leopold Lake on Route 30 and is open
to Findlay Township residents 15 years and younger.
Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish in each of
four age categories: 5 and under; 6-8; 9-11 and 12-15.
This event is FREE, however each participant must
bring his or her own fishing rod, reel and bait. Adult
supervision will be mandatory for all participants 9
and under. COME AND JOIN THE FUN!
Egg Drop Contest
Immediately following the Hunt, we will be having
a new activity. Here is how it will work if you wish
to participate. Have your child take a RAW EGG and
cushion it using any materials that he or she can come
up with to prevent it from breaking when it is dropped.
This is actually a science experiment, so have your
kids come up with ideas on their own. Bring your egg
to the hunt WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME MARKED
SOMEWHERE. Armstrong Telephone will be there
with a Bucket Truck and will drop the eggs one at a
time from 20 – 30 feet. Any unbroken eggs will have
a go at a second drop. There will be a monetary prize
for all eggs that make it through the second drop. Get
your kids creativity going and join us for this new addition to the Easter Egg Hunt!!!
