Their names may not often show up in C is often described as bringing together the best of both worlds. It allows each individual player to have an artistic voice while also having the joy of collaborative music-making. This intimate setting creates a musical experience far greater than the simple sum of the parts. Since 1987, the CCO has proudly presented a concert series devoted entirely to chamber music and we hope you’ ll join us for these programs that celebrate music that moves us. In the first half of the season we’ll feature two defining works by Brahms and Nielsen. Each of these have well-earned places of distinction in the repertoire and vividly demonstrate how well these instruments work together. The Glière is a charming work, performed far too rarely, and 20th century America is represented by Leo Sowerby and Irving Fine. 6 Fall into Music Sunday, October 16, 2016 4:00pm, Unitarian Church, Ithaca GLIERE: Suite for Violin and Double Bass SOWERBY: Trio for Flute, Viola, and Piano BRAHMS: Piano Trio in C Minor, Op 101 7Music through the Ages Sunday, November 6, 2016 4:00pm, Unitarian Church, Ithaca FINE: Fantasia for string trio HAYDN: String Quartet Op 76, No. 3 “Emperor” NIELSEN: Wind Quintet Haydn has been dubbed the Father of the Symphony, but could just as easily be called the Father of the String Quartet as well. GINASTERA: Variaciones Concertantes Be a part of this amazing finish! Equally at home with opera, Broadway, or in an intimate recital hall, baritone Nathan Gunn has been a highly sought-after artist in many countries. Gunn The New York Times raved that “Nathan Gunn commands an operatic baritone whose mighty heft and richness confer an outsize authority on everything he touches.” In addition to selections with Mr. Gunn, the concert will feature Variaciones Concertantes, a gripping work written during a period of intense political conflict for Ginastera, and Le Tombeau de Couperin, a suite of short movements, each composed in loving memory of people who died in WWI. Don’t miss what’s certain to be a memorable night with Nathan Gunn as we bring our 40th Anniversary Season to a grand close. Mr. Gunn’s performance is sponsored by James and Dianne Orcutt.
