in Saint-Petersburg, Russia
Our main goals are:

development of civil society in Russia through the promotion of ideas of volunteerism and
citizens involvement in voluntary activities;

promotion of international understanding, developing friendship and cooperation among
people of different cultures and religions;

citizens' engagement in sport, healthy living, ecological and social activity.
We are a young organization, but already have done lot’s of good deeds and continue changing our
world for the better via different projects:
International:

Workcamps – possibility to rediscover this world, to contribute to the society, to meet new
friends and breake all stereotypes about culture and nations.

Youth Exchange – taking part and organizing projects in the frame of Youth in Action
Programme.
Interregional:

Preparation of volunteers for “Universiade 2013” in Kazan

Workcamps for volunteers from all regions of Russia
Local projects (in St.Petersburg and Leningrad region):

Cultural interaction club – this event is intended for those who want to speak English,
Spanish, French, German and to improve language skills.

Ecological projects – we encourage volunteer activity in sphere of enviromental protection
and ecology. Our volunteers participated in numerous ecological events, such as cleaning
parks and lakes, garbage collecting, ecological workcamps on Valaam, etc.

Graffiti – this project involves young painters, who make our city not so grey.

“Theatre in the Case” – theatre workshops and plays for children from orphanage and
retired people.

On-line magazine – people get knowledge of journalizm and write articles about
volunteering and actions for youth, held in our city.

Social volunteering – volunteers help retired and disabled people to clean their flats, wash
windows, floors, etc. As well we held computer courses for retired people.

About workcamps
Our workcamps are open to everybody, who wishes to make this world better with good deeds!
The age of volunteers in many of our projects is from 18 till 99 years – any age is perfect! We
are glad to see people of different religions and cultures and try to help them follow their
traditions. So, it’s not a problem if you are a vegetarian or don’t eat pork. All the camps are held
in the city of St. Petersburg and its suburbs, close to the city. We provide visa-support and
registration on arrival. We don’t provide insurance. Hope, you will have great time with us!

Travelling information
By plane: the international airport is situated in St.Petersburg itself and called Pulkovo. When
you arrive, just near the exit from the airport there is a shuttle bus (≈0,75 €), which will bring
you to the subway station “Moskovskaya”.
By bus: for volunteers from Europe it is possible to arrive to St.Petersburg by bus (Eurolines
www.eurolines.com, Ecolines http://www.ecolines.net, Simple Express www.simpleexpress.eu).
Usually buses arrive to Baltic Bus Station or Central Bus Station. Near both of them there are
subway stations.
By train: it’s also possible to come to St.Petersburg by train, which arrives to Finnish Train
Station or Vitebskiy Train Station. Near both of them there are subway stations.

The workcamp is organized in order to develop volunteers’ initiatives; to share volunteers’ experience
among participants from different countries; to promote intercultural dialog and mutual understanding.
During the workcamp volunteers will learn the Russian language, plan mutual volunteers’ activities,
participate in social projects, learn culture of Russia and culture of each other. Besides, being the first
early spring camp in terms of the organization, it will allow the participants to spend their time doing
amusing snow activities and get an unforgettable experience. As well the traditional Russian holiday
Maslenitsa will be celebrated from 11th to 17th of March, so volunteers will have an opportunity to learn
closer this tradition, take part in different events, devoted to it.
Work: according to the theme the volunteers will organize and carry out the events which are timed to
pay attention to such holiday as Maslenitsa. To find more information about Maslenitsa visit this page:

for the children from rehabilitation center, old people, local youth. As well to make beginning of the spring
for old lonely people really nice, volunteers will clean their flats (wash the floor, windows, etc.) Also there
will be some activities with local children and students (games, presentations about volunteers’ countries,
etc), as well as round table, where the participants can talk about their volunteer experience and how
voluntary services are developed in their countries. Volunteers’ activity takes 2 hours per day 5 times a
week. Moreover to plunge into the culture the participants will have the great possibility of learning
Russian and chance to get the answers to any questions they are interested in about Russia talking to the
native speakers. Language learning activity takes 3 academic hours per day 5 times a week.
Leisure time:
Volunteers will have a possibility to know one of the beautiful cities of the world, which name is Saint
Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: Hermitage, Petergof, Pavlovsk. Pushkin and some
others. Also there are many cinemas, entertaining centers, pubs and nightclubs.
Accommodation: kind of hostel well equipped with kitchen, shower, washing machine. No need to bring the
sleeping bag!!! The school is situated in the city itself. Meals will be prepared by volunteers, products are
provided. Visa-support is provided.
St. Petersburg Initiatives - White Nights and Marine Academy

Nevsky district of St. Petersburg is one the biggest ones, it hosts several museums, universities, huge
malls, concert halls and parks. The municipals of the districts are delighted to welcome the volunteers and
appreciate their work. Marine Academy is one of supporting institutions, it provides accommodation and
meals for volunteers, as well as a part of entertainment program.
Work:
Volunteers’ activity takes 4 to 6 hours per day 5 times a week. Work will be divided into two parts. One
part is helping old people to clean their flats (wash windows, floors, clean the dust, etc). Old people are
really open for communication and always happy to speak with youngsters. The other part is work in local
parks and gardens: plant and take care of trees, flowers, prepare ground, painting edges.
Leisure time:
Volunteers will have a possibility to explore one of the most beautiful cities of the world, which name is
Saint Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: the Hermitage, Petergof, Pavlovsk, Pushkin
and many others. Also there are many cinemas, entertaining centers, pubs and nigt clubs. The project
takes place during the famous White Nights - the time when at midnight the sun is still shining bright.
The volunteers will see briges opening at night, visit picturesque corners of the city. Several excursions
will be organized in Nevsky district.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will live on campus of the Academy well equipped by sleeping places and shower. No need to
bring the sleeping bag!!! The campus is situated about 40 minutes from the city-center by metro. Meals
will be cooked and served in local canteen by a chef. No alcohol is allowed. Visa-support is provided.
Requirements: Motivation letter, social and communication skills, basic knowledge of Russian is an
advantage, but not compulsory

volunteers’ activities, participate in social projects, learn culture of Russia and culture of each other.
Work (SOCI): volunteers will help old lonely people to keep their flats clean (washing windows, floors,
swiping the dust). Also will be some activities with local children and students (games, presentations about
volunteers’ countries, etc). Requirements: motivation letter.
Work (ART): volunteers will paint in beautiful way walls in youth centers and houses, make artistic
workshops for local children. Requirements: art skills.
Work (MANU/ENVI): volunteers will work on the territory of parks/rehabilitation center/school/youth
center and will dig the ground for trees, plant trees and flowers, clean the territory, paint edges.
In all workcamps there’ll be round table, where we are going to speak about participants’ volunteer
experience and how voluntary services are developed in their countries.
Volunteers’ activity takes 4 hours per day except weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
Leisure time: volunteers will have a possibility to know one of the most beautiful cities in the world –
North capital of Russia, Saint-Petersburg. Numerous excursions, guides tours and entertainment will be
proposed to participants. The volunteers could be a witness of a unique acting – drawing of bridges
through the Neva-river. Also it’s quite exciting to take a trip on the boat through the channels and rivers
of St. Petersburg. There are also many cinemas, entertaining centers, pubs and nightclubs. St-Petersburg
is also known by its beautiful suburbs: Petergof, Pushkin, Pavlovsk, Gatchina, Lomonosov.
Accommodation: kind of hostel well equipped with kitchen, shower, washing machine. No need to bring the
sleeping bag!!! The school is situated in the city itself. Meals will be prepared by volunteers, products are
provided. Visa-support is provided.
Kids in the Circus

Partner: Upsala-Circus is a unique social circus project that exists in Russia since 2000. The goal of
Upsala-Circus is the social adaptation of neglected children and youth by means of social circuswork. The
aim of Upsala-Circus work is to offer an alternative to street life, reintegrate children into society and
create favorable conditions for their thorough development. Mastering circus skillsallows children to
fulfill their need for risk by socially accepted means. Circus is a bright and colorful world, attractive to
everybody and open for every child notwithstanding his or her skills, physical abilities and social status.

Work:
Volunteers’ activity takes 4 to 6 hours per day 5 times a week. The project takes place during the summer
training camp for young circus artists. Volunteers will assist the trainers during daily activities:
workshops, classes, training, leisure, etc. The project encourages volunteers to suggest and lead their own
workshops (dancing, art, acting, sport activities, etc.). Participants of the work camp will manage the
mentioned above activities aimed to develop the children and help their circus career.
Leisure time:
The work camp is held in the suburb of Saint Petersburg - Vsevolozhsk. The picturesque area offers great
possibilities for leisure: sport games together with children, outside games, festivals and evening
entertainment. Volunteers will be involved in all activities of circus life and will be able to try themselves
as real circus artists.
On the weekends volunteers will have a possibility to explore one of the most beautiful cities of the
world, which name is Saint Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: the Hermitage,
Petergof, Pavlovsk, Pushkin and some others. Also there are many cinemas, entertaining centers, pubsand
nightclubs. An overnight trip to the city can be organized for volunteers for extra fee (20 euro).
Accommodation:
Volunteers will live together with children in a big cottage house. There will be common shower and
bathroom. Volunteers will be provided with meals prepared by the chef of the summer camp.
Vsevolozhsk is located 7 km away from St. Petersburg. Public transportation is available (bus, suburban
train). For the weekend volunteers can stay in the city if they wish (one night stay can be organized by
the hosting organization for extra fee of 20 euro). Visa support is provided.
Requirements: Motivation letter, will to work with kids, any talent or skill (f. ex. art skills, dancing,
painting, mastering any sport, etc.)
Wild animals need your help!

Partner: The Russian wild animal quarantine center «VELES» — performs a full complex of works
concerned with import of wild, ornamental, zoo animals to Russia and also their export abroad; their
maintenance, treatment, quarantine, rehabilitation. Together with the Leningrad zoo The Quarantine
Center «Veles» carries out programs on rescue of wild animals in St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region.
The experience of employees of the Zoo and the serious base of the Center make it possible to rescue a
lot of wild animals who come to grief. «Veles» is the only one such organization in Russia. More information

Work:
Volunteers will prepare food for animals, clean cages, feed some animals (not dangerous), help workers is
some manual work in the center, such as gardering, painting, etc. Work starts at 9 am and finishes at 4 pm
with 1 hour break for lunch and short breaks for tea/coffee. Among the most interesting animals in the
Center live bear, bobcats, seals, alpacas (kind of Lamas), small horses and many others. Please, pay
attention that all volunteers are to show their insurance on arrival and sing up the safety rules of the
Center! Nor we, nor the Center are responsible for any damage made to volunteers on their own fault.
Motivation letter is compulsory. Knowing some Russian will be nice, but not obligatory.
Location and Leisure time:
The «VELES» is located in village Rappolovo, Vsevolozhsk district, Leningrad region. It is easy to reach it,
but, at the same time, it is distant enough from a city – 20 km. The «Veles» is situated in an
environmentally appropriate zone, among the nature. It essentially heightens an effect when treating
animals, makes their maintenance in the Center comfortable and favorably influences on their psyche. On
the territory of the Center there is a possibility to make fire and barbeque, enjoy Russian banya. In 10
minutes walk there is a lake suitable for swimming and the farm for bisons, where it is possible to rent a
horse and spend good time. Also volunteers will have a possibility to know one of the most beautiful cities
of the world - Saint Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: the Hermitage, the Russian
Museum, Petergof, Pushkin and some others. For weekends volunteers can stay in the city, if they wish
(for extra fee of 25 euro). Excursion to St.Petersburg Zoo will be organized.
Accommodation and Food:
Volunteers will live on the second floor of center’s building in double rooms. No need to bring a sleeping
bag! There are 2 showers, sauna/Russian banya, small gym, TVs, kitchen, washing machine. Meals will be
prepared by volunteers, products are provided. Fresh eggs are available every morning. Please, notice,
that due to keeping some animals on the 1st floor of the center, there might be unpleasant smell upstairs
as well, so be ready for this. Don’t forget to bring working clothes and swimming-suit! Visa-support is
provided.

Work:
Flying children is the festival for kids and grown-ups. It was established in 2007 and takes place every
summer. It is a unique art ground for professional artists as well as social projects in the field of music,
circus and theatre. Contemporary circus teams from Europe meet on stage with theatre for disabled
persons, theatre for deaf children, children amatory circus, etc. This year the festival will be held from
6th to 9th of September. Volunteers will help organizing the stages, festival area and workshops.
Volunteers’ activity takes 5 to 7 hours per day 5 times a week during the preparation (from 1 st to 6th of
September). During the festival the volunteers will be able to watch the performances, assist the artists
and actors, and get wonderful experiences!
Leisure time:
Volunteers will have a possibility to know one of the beautiful cities of the world, which name is Saint
Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: Hermitage, Petergof, Pavlovsk. Pushkin and many
others. Also there are many cinemas, entertaining centers, pubs and nightclubs. Volunteers will be able to
explore the city, several excursions will be organized by hosting organization.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will live in a local hostel or school well equipped by sleeping places, kitchen and shower.
Volunteers will be accommodated about 30 minutes from the city-center by metro. Meals will be prepared
by volunteers, products are provided. The lunch meals will be provided by a partner.
