Mission
The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic
independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional
attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help
women thrive in work and in life.
History
Dress for Success Worldwide was founded in 1996 in New York City
by Nancy Lublin to help women transition into the workforce. There are
more than 85 affiliates in the United States and around the world
dedicated to the mission of helping women obtain and retain
employment and become self-sufficient.
Dress for Success Cincinnati (DfSC) was founded in 1999 by Mary
Ivers to serve low-income women entering or re-entering the workforce
in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Since 1999, DfSC has
been instrumental in developing support programs like the Professional
Women’s Group and Career Center to improve a woman’s ability to
retain employment.

A Message from Mary Ivers
Founder and CEO
Dear Friends,
2007 was a busy year for Dress for Success Cincinnati! We continued to fulfill
our mission by serving women seeking employment services through our Simply
Suited, Professional Women’s Group and Career Center programs. During this
year more than 1,200 women came to us for support. We provided them with
clothes, confidence, courage and the skills they need to be successful at work
and in life.
DfSC was recognized by Dress for Success Worldwide with the Nancy Lublin
Award. Named for the founder of Dress for Success, the Nancy Lublin Award
recognizes the top Dress for Success affiliate among 85 affiliates worldwide.
As we look forward to 2008 and beyond to our 10-year anniversary in 2009 we
are focusing on our long-term sustainability to ensure we are able to empower
women now and into the future. We’re continuing the quest to increase our
individual giving through the Beyond the Suit Breakfast and to further diversify
our revenue sources.
Since we opened our doors in Cincinnati in 1999, I have been heartened by the
commitment of our volunteers, donors, corporate partners, funders and staff.
Their gifts of time, talent and treasure are immeasurable and what truly helps our
women succeed.
Thank you to the Greater Cincinnati community…it is through your support that
more than 8,000 women have begun on the path to self sufficiency since 1999!
We couldn’t do it without you!
Sincerely,
Mary Ivers

EMPOWER!
Programs inspire women to thrive and achieve self-sufficiency.
Dress for Success programs empower women to achieve economic independence for
themselves and their families – and to become contributing members of the community.
Simply Suited
The Simply Suited program is the women’s first step to being prepared to interview for
employment. After referral from one of more than 70 referral partners, an appointment
is scheduled with a personal shopper. The personal shopper works one-on-one with the
women to choose appropriate clothing and accessories so they can walk into their
interview confidently and professionally.
After securing employment, women may return for a second outfit to increase their
professional wardrobe, again working one-on-one with a personal shopper to build
confidence and an invitation to join the Professional Women’s Group.
Professional Women’s Group (PWG)
PWG is a networking and educational group for women who have recently entered or
re-entered the workforce.
Many women making the transition into the workplace often face a myriad of challenges,
from understanding corporate culture to handling personal finances, often without
adequate support. PWG takes a comprehensive approach toward economic
independence by addressing their needs in relation to work, home and community.
Career Center
After the women have received their first suit, they have access to our Career Center.
The Career center includes computers with internet access, supplies, reference
materials and a FAX machine. These resources are used to update resumes, seek
better employment or brush up on computer skills. Appointment are also available for
one-on-one guidance with local human resource professionals.
“I am somebody, I can and will get a job.
I will succeed.”

Beyond the Suit Breakfast – May 1, 2007
The second annual Beyond the Suit Breakfast was held May 1. More than 300 guests learned
about the impact Dress for Success has on our community and the women we serve. The event
was led by DfSC’s key volunteer leaders, clients and Joi Gordon, executive director, Dress for
Success Worldwide. The event highlighted the need for services in our community that empower
women and continue our progress toward sustainability through the support of individuals.

SUCCESS!
I am a survivor. I survived physical abuse, cancer and prison. As a college educated radiology
technician with a master of public health degree, I supported my family with a successful career.
My life was a success until 1997, when it took a tragic turn. I am on the road to recovery and I rely on
the support from Dress for Success.
At Dress for Success my self-esteem and self confidence were restored – not so much because
of the professional clothes but because I was treated with dignity and respect. Following my suiting
appointment, I had an interview and was immediately hired at a small manufacturing firm.
Today I am an active member of the Professional Women’s Group, where I participate in networking
and educational programs. I also am working to re-instate my radiology technician license. My
ultimate career goal is to become a licensed chemical dependency counselor.

4TH STREET BOUTIQUE
Long-term sustainability for Dress for Success
The 4th Street Boutique is a sophisticated thrift store
dedicated to providing an additional funding stream
for Dress for Success Cincinnati to sustain existing
programs.
The 4th Street Boutique offers the public as well as the
women we serve a source for gently-used, high-quality
and reasonably priced clothing. The clothes sold in the
Boutique have been donated to Dress for Success from
our community that cannot be used in the Simply Suited
program. The proceeds from the clothing sales benefit DfS Cincinnati.
The Boutique serves as a model program for other Dress for Success affiliates interested in
launching an earned-income venture to support their programming for women.
