Counseling Services
JFCS provides confidential treatment, counseling and
support to individuals of all ages, children, couples
and families. We help those who are experiencing
personal or relationship problems or the impact of
a social and environmental crisis. Counseling and
support services include:

JFCS has introduced dedicated play therapy areas for

“I hated talking about my feelings…but I was drowning
in them. My parents didn’t understand, I don’t know if I
even understood, all I knew at the time was the only way to
cope was through cutting. My parents pressured me to see a
counselor. During the first few meetings I felt uncomfortable
with the forced conversation, I did not want to share with
this stranger, but I soon recognized the important advice my
counselor provided. She helped me find a new outlet for my
emotions through music and art. Most importantly she allowed
me to recognize that I had been surrounded by toxic friends.
I know now I am worthy of so much more, I learned to
empower myself and accept only healthy relationships

Case Management Services
Healthy Kosher Food Pantry
Through the renovation and expansion of the JFCS offices, we
have quadrupled the size of our food pantry. It now includes
a full-size refrigerator and freezer to offer fresh and healthy
Kosher options to our clients. With a greater variety of food
and necessities as well as an on-site dietitian, 100% of clients
reported their meals are more balanced and nutritious as a
result of access to our pantry.

were for me when food shopping. Having the nutritionist
available during my food pantry appointments was
instrumental to improving my health. She gave me targeted
advice on which foods to add to my diet and which to
eliminate to help me control my diabetes. I feel more
determined to continue my new healthy diet and to
make better choices for my family.”

and I had been without heat for over a year. JFCS helped me navigate the
application process for affordable housing and gave me the funds for the
security deposit. The staff at JFCS helped me work on budgeting and
I utilized the food pantry as I worked to get back on my feet. My new
home is perfect, to have hot water and a clean space to call my
own – I could not have done it without the help of JFCS.”

Senior Services
JFCS offers a wide array of programs for older adults and
their families:
Social opportunities at Kosher Cafes
Aging-in-place support through Secure@Home
Holocaust Survivor programs
Kosher Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors
Senior Outreach Service
Eighteen Jewish seniors, who could not otherwise afford
necessary care, are provided with daily Kosher Meals on
Wheels deliveries, two hours of home care per week,
monthly home visits, and a Life Alert system for round-theclock safety.
“What do you do when the roles are reversed? At an age
when so many of my friends are turning to their children for
assistance, at 90 years old I found myself looking after my 65
year old son. My son has faced significant health challenges
over his lifetime but was living independently until a recent
serious health condition left him unable to care for his
basic needs. I knew I could not become his full time
caregiver due to my own limitations and turned to
JFCS for help. The staff at JFCS informed me that my
son was eligible for care through Senior Outreach
Service. We both feel more secure knowing he is being
cared for through this program.”

Secure@Home helps older adults remain independent
and in their own homes with an umbrella of
services. Secure@Home members benefit from care
management, assessment, 24/7 emergency phone
availability, information and referrals, transportation
options, monthly hellos and more.

“As a recently retired adult, I wanted to take full advantage of my free time. I
was traveling to new places and taking up new hobbies and enjoying every
moment! One day while tending to my garden I took a bad fall and ended
up with two broken wrists and no idea how I was going to get through even
the most basic tasks – cooking, cleaning, bathing. Luckily a friend of mine
referred me to Secure@Home. Through the program I was able to quickly
connect with a care manager who assisted in coordinating rehabilitation,
visits with my doctors, and assistance in my home. When a winter storm
hit, my care manager set up a volunteer to come salt my driveway. It is this
high level of care and attention that allows me to continue living my
life to the fullest and feeling secure in my independence!”

Gesher LeKesher
Gesher LeKesher (Bridge to a Connection) is a national teen mentoring and
leadership program sponsored by JFCS and implemented in synagogues for
Jewish teens. Together, the teens strengthen their connections with their
heritage, with their Judaism, and with other youth.

The Opposite of Spoiled with Ron Lieber
JFCS partnered with the Chapin School to present
Ron Lieber, author of The Opposite of Spoiled: Raising
Kids Who Are Grounded, Generous, and Smart About
Money. Over 90 parents in attendance learned how
to address financial matters with children in order
to encourage fiscal responsibility and philanthropy.
J-LEAP: Jewish Leadership, Education & Philanthropy
J-LEAP is a new program for young Jewish professionals
to engage in charitable service, grow their professional
network, and develop leadership skills. Quarterly
events include volunteer projects, social gatherings
and informal networking.
