The LA/SPCA is pleased that you are considering adopting a shelter animal. The LA/SPCA pet adoption process requires an investment of your time. Be prepared to spend about two hours selecting and adopting an animal that will be sharing his life with you. The process usually involves more than one trip to the shelter. Please be aware of these time considerations as well as the fact that you probably will not be able to take your new pet home on the day you adopt him. All puppies, kittens, dogs and cats must be spayed or neutered before going home ADOPTION STEPS: • • • • • You will be first asked to complete a short survey about the kind of animal you want, and the activity level of that animal. We will then invite you to the adoption areas of our shelter to look at the animals we have selected for adoption. We ask that you not open the cages, we will assist you with that after you find a pet you are interested in adopting. Return to the adoption office with the names and numbers of animals you would like more information about. We will then tell you about that pet and review your survey to ensure this animal is a right match for your household. We will then bring the dog outside to interact with you. Right now the cats are not housed in such a way that they can leave the cage. When making inquires about an animal use the kennel number (a six (6) digit number). After your selection is made, we will review with you the responsibilities involved in adoption and if approved, we will proceed with the adoption if the pet can leave today. The LA/SPCA reserves the right to deny adoptions.
