Quilts of Valor Block Drive

Quilts of Valor
Block Drive
MQX has a goal to help keep
more soldiers warm…
what can YOU do to help?
In some cases, a quilt is more than
warmth…it may be the silent wish for
strength during a wounded soldier’s
recovery or the long overdue recognition of service to our country. Last year’s
block drive to benefit Quilts of Valor
resulted in over 300 blocks which were
distributed to two active chapters of the
QOV organization. We WILL double that
number at a minimum…and wouldn’t
it be great to triple or quadruple it? We
believe it can be done!
So, what can you do to help? Make
blocks! We challenge each student,
faculty and MQX staff member to make
TWO blocks, to make this happen. Two
blocks, that’s it.
Go to the MQX website, www.
MQXShow.com click on “QOV Block
Drive” under the “Classes” tab.
With the help of Candace West, Quilt
Artist/Educator and longtime MQX
participant, we have chosen three blocks
for this block drive. Two of the blocks,
Mississippi and Anvil, are traditionally
Buzz Saw
pieced and for paper piecing fans, we
have included a paper pieced block,
Buzz Saw. Block patterns have been
provided by Marcia Hohn of Quilter’s
Cache. Pattern PDF’s and an Electric
Quilt 7 project file for these blocks may
be downloaded on the MQX website under the Classes tab. Please note that the
Buzz Saw pattern has been resized to 12"
to finish the same size as the Mississippi
and Anvil blocks.
How about colors? Blocks may be created in two different color ways.
• Red, White and Blue — Get out those
patriotic fabrics!
• Modern Gray — Use gray solids or
modern gray prints for the background of each block and add modern hues of color and fabrics for the
focal point of the blocks.
Blocks should be turned into the
MQX show office on the Expo Center
floor (booth 108) and at the Friday Night
Dinner. Prizes for the top three contributors will be awarded.
