What is a Quarter Auction?
A quarter auction is part raffle, part auction, but 100% fundraiser. It works a bit like bingo.
Admission tickets are $5.00 each and one bidding paddle is included with your admission ticket
to use in the auction. You must bring quarters to use with the bidding paddles to bid during the
auction. The paddle will have a corresponding numbered ball which will be put into the drawing
basket. A number will be pulled out of the drawing basket for each auction item. If you had bid
on the item with your quarters and your paddle is up, then that item is YOURS! It’s that easy!
Before the auction begins, you will have the opportunity purchase an ALL IN paddle for a $25
donation. This special paddle allows you to bid on every single item up for “auction”. You would
then have two bidding paddles, one for using your quarters with and one you’ll lift every single
time.
Once the auction begins, the announcer will hold up the item that is up for bid and will
announce whether the item is a “one, two, three or four quarter” bid, depending on the value
of the item. If you’re interested in bidding, you’ll drop the required amount of quarters in the
bucket on your table and raise your paddle (you’ll always raise your “all in” paddle if you’ve
purchased one).
The announcer will then draw a number to find a winner. If they draw your number and you
had bid on the item, hooray! You just won an awesome item at a great price! If they draw your
number and you did NOT bid, just call out “no bid!” and they’ll continue to draw numbers until
they find a winner.
There may be various raffles and games played through the evening - the announcer and
workers will explain how those work.
Be sure to bring plenty of quarters, but if you run out, there will be rolls of quarters available for
purchase at the event.
If it all sounds complicated, relax. Everything will be explained again once you get to the
auction, and you’ll catch on in no time...you’ll love it!
