ADM Milling Scholarship
This award was established to provide a scholarship to
an outstanding Baking and Pastry Arts student. ADM
processes and transports grains and other products
used in VCC's baking programs.

ALSCO Canada Award
ALSCO, one of the world's leading textile services and a
supplier of uniforms to the College, is presenting this
award to an outstanding student in Culinary Arts.

Alexander & Derwin Lim, Detty Lim Cheng
Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes outstanding students in the
Culinary Arts and Asian Culinary Arts Programs. Detty
Cheng, a long-time employee of VCC, established this
award in 1995 originally to honour the memory of her
brothers Alexander and Derwin. When she passed
away, her family added her name to this scholarship.

Amica Mature Lifestyles Scholarship
Amica Mature Lifestyles Residences established this
award for students in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality
Management Programs. The Culinary Arts recipient
demonstrates positive interactions with clientele,
adaptability to feedback, flexibility and creativity in
creating dishes and menus. The Hospitality
Management recipient excels in service, demonstrates
patience and sensitivity when dealing with colleagues
and clients, and shows an ability to anticipate the needs
of clients.

Angelica Corsi Memorial Scholarship
The friends and associates of Mario Corsi, former
general manager of the Park Royal Hotel and proprietor
of Corsi's Restaurant and Vivace in North Vancouver,
established this scholarship in his wife's memory. A
Hospitality Management student who exhibits
exceptional qualities is chosen by the faculty.

Anne Coates Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created in memory of Anne Coates
by her family, friends and coworkers at Carlson Wagonlit
Travel. The scholarship is for an outstanding student in

The Association of VCC Administrators represents the
leadership team in positions that vary from
administrative assistant to vice-president. This award

These awards are offered in memory of Bert McNeil, a

Bunge Canada is Canada’s largest and most trusted
manufacturer of edible oil products to the food service
and baking industries. They are pleased to offer this
award to acknowledge the outstanding scholastic

Centennial Foodservice Award
Centennial Foodservice offers this semi-annual award in
recognition of the achievements of an outstanding
student in the Culinary Arts Program. Centennial is a
Canadian company founded in 1967 and one of the
largest distributors of meats, seafoods, and other
products.

Chef Brian Marchesi Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created in memory of Chef Brian
Marchesi, a graduate of the Culinary Arts program at
VCC, to encourage culinary arts students to follow their
passion for cooking and to develop their entrepreneurial
spirit, as Brian did. He worked for Lumiere, Blue Water
Cafe, and the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver before
realizing his dream and founding in 2006 his own fine
dining restaurant, Chada Thai, located in Coquitlam. He
generously contributed his time to the creation of other
Thai restaurants, the professional development of other
chefs, and the organization of activities that supported
his devotion to excellence in fine cuisine.

Chef's Table Society of BC Scholarship
In 2007, VCC Culinary Arts students placed first in the
Chef's Table Society of BC Culinary Competition. The
funds received as a result of winning this competition are
awarded annually to an outstanding student in the
Culinary Arts Program.

Conrad Leung Award
Awarded to an outstanding student in Asian Culinary
Arts. Conrad Leung founded Canada's first Asian
Culinary Arts program at VCC more than 30 years ago.

A Vancouver supplier of seafood to restaurants and
retailers, Deluxe Seafood offers this semi-annual award
to a student who demonstrates high achievement in all
areas of the Culinary Arts Program.

Don Bellamy Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Restaurant and
Foodservices Association of BC to honour Don
Bellamy's 25 years with the Association and his
advocacy of the industry. The scholarship is available to
outstanding graduating students in the Hospitality
Management program.

Dr. Gerald Korn Scholarship for Culinary
Excellence
When Dr. Gerald Korn completed his term as Bailli of the
Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, the world's most
prestigious gastronomic international society, that
venerable company of connoisseurs honoured him by
establishing this award in his name. It is presented to the
top student in the Culinary Arts Program.

EM Bakery Equipment provides baking equipment and
services to Western Canadian bakeries, from small

Howie Hayes Scholarship
Howie Hayes spent a lifetime working and winning
friends in the hospitality industry. Created in his memory
by friends and colleagues, this award is open to a

HSBC Bank Canada Aboriginal Scholarship
These scholarships are awarded annually to Aboriginal
students at VCC. The scholarship recipients have
demonstrated a positive attitude, a commitment to their
studies, and a keen desire to play a leadership role

Intercity Packers Scholarship
Intercity Packers is a wholesale meat and seafood
supplier in Alberta and British Columbia. In recognition
of the number of chefs that come through the VCC
Culinary Arts Program and enter the marketplace, this
scholarship is awarded to the student showing the most
creativity using protein. A trophy listing the annual
winners will be displayed in the Culinary Arts
Department at VCC.

J.J. Nowacki Scholarship
This scholarship honours the memory of Mr. J.J.
Nowacki, department head of VCC's formerly named
“Food Trades" Department. It recognizes a high
achieving Culinary Arts student.

Jack Jung Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established by the Jung family
in 1999 to honour the memory of Jack Jung. Jack and
his wife, Yvonne, owned the popular Rickshaw and
Tropical Isle restaurants in Surrey, BC. These
scholarships are awarded to students with the highest
grade average in the Asian Culinary Arts program.

Jess Debeck Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honours the memory of Jess DeBeck, a
student in Culinary Arts who loved to cook. The
scholarship is given to a student who reflects Jess's high

Laura Giesbrecht Baker's Dozen Memorial
Scholarship
In fond memory of Laura Giesbrecht, this scholarship
celebrates her love of baking, her generosity and her
kind spirit. Most of what she baked was shared with
others and she expected nothing in return. A smile on
your face was reward enough. The successful recipient
is a student in the Baking & Pastry Arts Program who
shares Laura's generosity and love of baking delicious
creations using nutritious ingredients.

This award is offered by Les Clefs D'or of BC, a
professional association of hotel concierges, to a student
who is interested in pursuing a career in the hospitality
industry and who has demonstrated community

Louis Stervinou Memorial Scholarship
Louis Stervinou was a popular and respected Vancouver
restaurateur. This scholarship was established in his
honour by Peter Toigo of White Spot Ltd. It is awarded to

desire to play a leadership role within the industry.

Notary Foundation of BC Scholarship
The Notary Foundation of BC is committed to building
better communities, one grant at a time. One of the
ways they achieve this is by supporting students taking
law-related courses. This scholarship is awarded to an
outstanding full-time student in the Legal Administrative

Since 1988, Nunweiler's Flour Company has been
milling whole grains into fresh whole grain flour without

Created in honour of Patti Smolen’s contribution to the

The Real Estate Foundation of BC funds organizations

William Tell Restaurant Scholarship
After 40 successful years, The William Tell restaurant
closed its doors in December 2010. Owner Erwin
Doebeli, along with his wife Josette and son Phillipe,
celebrated his induction into the BC restaurant Hall of
Fame by creating the William Tell Scholarships, awarded
to the top three students chosen from the Culinary Arts
Student of the Year competition.

Dr. Kes Chetty MOSAIC Scholarship
Dr. Chetty was known for his compassion, integrity, and
commitment to social justice. The scholarships

demonstrated commitment to human rights.

Aileen Yip was an ESL instructor at VCC for over 18
years. Upon retirement, Aileen and her husband, Gibb,
donated her retirement gift back to the College to create
this award. Presented to a student from a non-English
speaking Asian country, the Yip Memorial Scholarship
recognizes those who demonstrate a positive attitude,
fellowship, enthusiasm and commitment to their studies,
and a genuine love of learning. By so doing they
exemplify the high standards of excellence, character
and perseverance personified by Gibb and Aileen Yip.

Jericho Hill Legacy Trust Leanne Rumley Award
Created by Jericho Hill Legacy Trust to honour Leanne
Rumley, a former Program Advisor for Deaf and Hard of

impaired community, which advance their literacy,
education, employment or economic self-sufficiency.

Joanne Whitney Scholarship
This scholarship is created in memory of Joanne
Whitney by her friends and colleagues. She was a
dedicated classroom instructor as well as the proud
author of The English Grammar Handbook, a handbook
for ESL students at high school and college levels.
Those who worked at VCC with Joanne in College
Prepatory English (CPE) admired her dedication to her
students.

Electronics Department Head, Ken Wheeler, a

This scholarship was created by the family of the late
Lewis Rosenbloom in his honour. The recipient is a

Mainstream Broadcasting Scholarship
Mainstream Broadcasting has served the multicultural
communities of British Columbia for over three decades
with much pride and dedication. This award was
established in 1982 to recognize students making good
progress in their studies and to further international

Margaret Hepler Memorial Scholarship
Family, friends and colleagues wish to honour the
memory of Margaret Hepler, a faculty member in the
ESL Department. This scholarship is awarded to a

In 1990 William K. McMenamon, a long-time VCC
supporter, and Doris Richardson, a former member of
the Foundation Board, established this endowment fund.
The scholarship is open to all VCC students to honour

Shannon Girvan Hougham Award
The Shannon Girvan Hougham Award honours three
benefactors. Shannon - for Shannon Hougham,
because she values the Program for Deaf and Hard of
Hearing Adults and her belief in the potential of the
students. Girvan - for Shannon's father, John Girvan,
who passed away in 2009. He was an intelligent,
generous man with a hearing loss and a learning
disability, who believed in the value of education.
Hougham - for Ted Hougham's parents, Mary and
Walter Hougham, who both worked in and promoted the
field of Special Education in Ontario.

The Society of Automotive Engineers established this
scholarship to honour the memory of Fred Holmes, who
was a leader in his field and a strong supporter of the
VCC Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport program. The
recipient must be enrolled in the Heavy
Duty/Commercial Transport program and have high
academic standing.

Awarded to a student in the Heavy Duty/Commercial
Transport program who excels in his/her studies, this
scholarship was created in memory of Jim Sanders, the
man behind the design and delivery of the original Diesel

Robert Dziekanski was a Polish immigrant to Canada
who died in October 2007 on his arrival to Canada after
being tasered by the RCMP at Vancouver International
Airport. Don Rosenbloom was the lawyer who
represented the Polish Government at a Judicial Inquiry
into Mr. Dziekanske's death. Mr. Rosenbloom
established this award in memory of Mr. Dziekanski.

Alexander Andison supported deserving students at
VCC since the 1950s. Bruce Andison, age 18, was
killed in the CPA plane crash July 8, 1965. The

father's name was added on his death in 1989. The
scholarship is awarded to a student with learning
disabilities who has made commendable progress in
his/her studies.

Judy Thiele Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is created in memory of Judy Thiele.
Blind since birth, Judy became one of very few blind
professional librarians in North America. She was an
academic, researcher and early advocate of computer
potentials for the vision-impaired. She developed and
taught technology courses for teachers of the blind at
UBC. Judy had a lifelong commitment to recognizing
other vision impaired students of merit and supporting
them financially. This scholarship recognizes a student

Scholarship
Family and friends of Andres Alejandro Espinoza
established this scholarship in his memory. The
successful recipient is a full-time student in good
academic standing who demonstrates a commitment to
community volunteerism and is working towards a
diploma or certificate at Vancouver Community College.

This scholarship, honouring the memory of Glen Hyatt,
was established by Quebecor Printing Vancouver. It
honours students in the Digital Graphic Design Program

Pacific Newspaper Group Scholarship
The Pacific Newspaper Group is a long-standing
supporter of VCC. This scholarship was originally
awarded to students in the Printing Program. In 2005 the
decision was taken to award the scholarship to an
outstanding student in the Digital Graphic Design
Program.

Read Jones Christoffersen Award
Read Jones Christoffersen Consulting Engineers is
pleased to reward innovative thinking and practical
results by offering this scholarship. Open to all students
in Drafting Technician - Architectural - Civil Structural, it
recognizes the top student in the structural portion of the
program.

Stan Phipps was a long-time supporter of VCC, Alumnus

VCC Faculty Association Award
The Vancouver Community College Faculty Association
is the union of the more than 600 faculty who work at all
VCC campuses. Each year the union sets aside $6000
of its members' funds to provide for awards for the
various schools and centres. The criteria for each award
is set by faculty in the departments concerned and are
based on high achievement or outstanding progress.
We are proud to offer these awards and to recognize the

Importers of the finest quality diamonds, gemstones and
jewellery, Adams & Stevens Importers established this
award to honour a first year jewellery student for their
overall outstanding achievement.
Amulet Gems & Design Award
This scholarship is offered to a student who has shown
outstanding achievement in the gemmology portion of
Jewellery Art & Design Program.
Circle Craft Co-operative Scholarship
Circle Craft Cooperative is a unique BC artist
cooperative dedicated to providing opportunities for
crafts people to connect with the community. This
award is offered to a student graduating from the
Jewellery Art & Design Program who has demonstrated
outstanding achievement and interest in pursuing
jewellery arts. The recipient will have their piece on
display at the Circle Craft store.

Craft Council of BC Award
The Craft Council of BC provides leadership in the craft
community by building and promoting the development,
viability and appreciation of fine craft in Canada. The
award is given to a student in the Jewellery Art and
Design Program for finest display and includes exhibition
in a public art gallery.
Karl Brown Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Karl Brown,
who was an instructor in the VCC Electronics and
Jewellery Departments. It is awarded to a student in the
Jewellery Art and Design Program who has shown the
best technical achievement in second year.
Lacy West Artistic Achievement Award
An award is given to a student in the Jewellery, Arts and
Design program for artistic achievement.
