Course Objectives
This course is designed to build up on the four key language skillsListening, speaking, reading and writing- and offers insight into the
German speaking culture. Grammatical correctness in speaking and
writing will be improved by in class and homework assignments.

Learning Outcomes After completion of this course the students will have finished the level
A1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages. At the end of the semester the students will be able to:
interact in German at a basic level on topics related to everyday life.

The course follows a communicative approach with emphasis on all
four skills. Learning will be accomplished by using the target language
various excercises and class activities. Partner-, and group work, role
play, word games etc. will be done. Active participation in class is
essential for the improvement of oral skills and competence.
Textbook: studio d A1, Teilband 2, Kurs- und Übungsbuch, along with
the CD. An additional handout manual will be provided for class and
homework assignments.
Academic Dishonesty Any kind of cheating or plagiarism during midterms have to be
reported to the disciplinary committee of the university.
Course Evaluation
2 Midterm Exams (40%)
Each may include listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary components. Dates of
midterms will be announced during the semester.
Attendance (10 %)
Active participation in class requires regular attendance and daily preparation for classes, including
homework assignments. In case of missing a class the student is advised to come prepared to the
next class. Missing one third of classes may result in an F grade.
Oral Participation and oral exam(20 %)
Your oral grade will consist of your overall oral participation in class and oral exam which will take
place in the last week of the semester. Students will have to introduce themselves and talk about
topics they have learnt during the semester.
Final Exam (30 %)
The final exam will cover all topics and chapters from the textbook: studio d A1,1.
Date and time of the Final Exam will be annonuced by the Registrar’s Office at the end of the
semester.

Students need a minimum of 60 points in order to pass the course and get credits.
Audit students need an average of 60 points in their 2 midterms. Otherwise they have to take the
final exam, too.
