April Showers…bring MAY FLOWERS!
Remember that old saying? That of course was from a time when the weather could accurately be predicted. The seasons
followed one another in a pattern of cool, cold, warm and then blazing heat! We knew the seasons were changing. To
paraphrase the Book of Ecclesiastes, there is a: time to till the soil and plant the crops; a time to water and pull weeds; a
time to harvest; and a time to can the food for the winter ahead. But that was then, this is now!
Times have changed for all us all. What we expected in the past is no longer valid. Look at our country. We seem to be
going in a great number of directions without any rhyme or reason. When will we get back on track? It depends on which
track you are aiming for!
For centuries, change has come slowly. Time was first told by the position of the Sun via a sundial. The water clock was
invented about 300BC. The first mechanical clock was not invented until the early 1300’s. The pendulum clock came along
in 1656 with pocket watches soon to follow with the invention of the mainspring. It was not until the 1930’s that quartz
became the major component of clocks. Now look at what has happened. Computers have made clocks obsolete! Many
people do not own a wrist watch, instead they use their cell phone. Talk about another change, the cell phone has created a
whole new industry and a new way of communicating: no longer do we speak face-to-face, now we TEXT!!!!
Change keeps coming at an alarming rate. Children today are far more sophisticated and worldly than any previous
generation. This is not necessarily a good thing. Children are not allowed to be children. Rather they are treated as if they
were adults. They are being given too many choices that they are not prepared to make. They are thrust into the world are
a very fast pace.
So as change happens around us how do we react? Do we try to hide and ignore it, or do we accept it and work with it as
best as we can. In the 1800's the Austrian economist Edwin Meeses said, “It is not human planning that runs the world,
rather it is human action that drives change.” And so we do. Our actions determine much of what happens in the world and
all around us. So when we act, let us remember who it is we acting on behalf of – Jesus Christ. If we call ourselves His
disciples then we must act that way as well. We must remember that we are to be the body of the Christ. That we all have
a role to play and that we are to use our gifts and talents as best we can for the good of the Kingdom. So in the days and
weeks ahead, as we move forward, let us always pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us to that place where as one body, we
will continue Jesus' mission: to help the least of these in His name.
Blessings,
Pastor Tony

The Tuesday Crew
Do you know the Tuesday Crew? Let me
introduce you. For many years, members
of our church would gather on Tuesday
morning to perform projects around the
church.
Changing light bulbs, minor
electrical repairs, light painting and many
other tasks. Of course, fellowship and fun
is always the number one priority.
Especially when the coffee and donuts
come out!
For so long, this group was led by
everyone's good neighbor, Norm Nitschke.
However, with his passing, his daughter,
Nancy Forsythe will continue the tradition
and provide able leadership and guidance
for the work needed.
If you are interested in helping the church
and building relationships, come to the
church and join in! Please, no need to be
an engineer, everyone can work and have
fun!
