HUMAN BODY LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION MOBILE PERFORMANCE PROJECT
50 points
Goal: Demonstrate your understanding of the four levels of organization in the human body.
Task: Create a mobile to represent each level of organization of the human body with a set of hand drawn figures,
hanging at its appropriate level beneath the level above it.
LEVEL 1: ORGAN SYSTEMS (3 systems represented in the human figure outline)
LEVEL 2: ORGANS: (3-5 organs suspended from their location in the system above.)
LEVEL 3: TISSUES (All 4 tissues suspended from ONE of the organs above.)
LEVEL 4: CELLS (Individual cells enlarged as they appear in each of the four tissues.)
Step 1: From the list below, select 3-5 organs. BE SURE that at least one of the organs you choose has a star.
Starred organs have all four tissue types.
Kidney
*Tongue
Brain *Skin Pancreas
*Eye ball
Lung
*Heart
Thyroid Gland
Gall Bladder Adrenaline Gland
*Stomach
Femur
*Gastrocnemius
(a leg muscle)
Step 2: Create Level 1 – In the human body outline, sketch in the main parts of the organ systems for 3 of the
organs you selected. The systems need not be totally complete but they should be accurate! The figure should be
mounted in a coat hanger.
Step 3: Create Level 2 – From each organ you chose in step 1, hang an enlarged picture of the
organ. Color your drawings and label each one with small letters.
Step 4: Create Level 3 – From an organ with a star in level 2, hang a horizontal bar
Titled “tissues”. From the bar suspend drawn figures representing the 4 tissue types
in the organ above.
Step 5: Create Level 4 – Draw an ENLARGED individual cell resembling those you
depicted for each of the four tissues and hang it from the matching tissue in the level above.
NOTE: Pick organs and systems you can handle. All figures used in the mobile should be hand drawn in color.
Scoring Rubric

and neatness. Project demonstrates above average knowledge and understanding of the 4 levels
of organization. Meets standard.
