O U R S C H O O L Asa Andrew Schnowske Have you heard of the big news? Mrs. Schnowske had a baby! His name is Asa Andrew Schnowske and he was born on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 12:23 a.m. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He loves to eat, sleep, read books, “fly” with daddy, and have tummy time. He wears his hair in a Mohawk and makes snorting noises at nighttime. Take a look at this adorable picture of Asa below! Kindergarten Scoop Kindergarten is as busy as the Easter bunny! In math, they are working on recognizing the numbers 11-19. In reading, they are working on literacy centers. Next in science, they will be learning about plants and a life cycle of a chick! Kindergarten is very busy in April! Third Grade Scoop 3rd grade is happy to be done with their first year of ISAT! In science, they will be working on Forces Interaction. It is going to be very exciting! Third grade will also be learning about the Titanic! Miss Myers class is having the I Survived book club with Mr. Menendez. Third grade is very busy this month! First Grade Scoop st In reading, 1 graders are learning more about rabbits for their Easter bunny brunch. The bunny brunch is where the kids bring their stuffed furry friends with them to school. In math, the little workers are learning more about 3D shapes. In science, they are exploring the wonders of the stars, moon, and Sun. Soon, the 1st graders are going to be hopping into 2nd grade! Fourth Grade Scoop In 4th grade Science they are learning about animals-vertebrates and invertebrates. In Social Studies, they will be creating their state floats in May. In Reading, they are reading Newbery Honor books. In Math, they will be calculating fractions, fractions, and fractions! Also, they are doing poetry! The Scoop On Mrs. Craig Q: If you could be any Disney character, who would you be? A: I would want to be Cinderella. I’d get to live in a castle and have a fairy godmother. Easter Around the World The smell of spring is in the air! The coming of Easter means that we will soon be out of school, and outside, in the sunshine! But did you know, other places around the world are celebrating Easter a lot differently than America? People in Poland try to drench themselves in a huge water fight, called Smingus-Dyngus. In Haux, France, they cook a gigantic omelet! It feeds 1,000 people every year! Almost everywhere around the world, people decorate and paint eggs, so that even if we are thousands of miles apart, we still share the same tradition. A Missing Flight Imagine that one of your family members just got on a flight to go somewhere not that far away. You know that they are in safe hands, and you don’t worry about them. A little less than an hour later, you receive news that the air flight that your family member was traveling on vanished from radars and that there was no trace! You wouldn’t know how to act because you’re so scared. That’s exactly how some people felt right after they heard that MH370, a plane that was heading from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China, had just vanished. The plane disappeared at 1:21 am (our time) on March 8, 2014. At first, everyone thought it was a hijack, but, on March 26, they found debris in the Indian ocean near Australia, which now they think as the remains of the plane. They still have no idea how the plane suddenly changed course. The Malaysian government is dumbfounded on how this happened, and where the 239 people who were aboard the plane are. On the 25th Arbor Day! Planet X Rumors are spreading through the world. Space is the main subject rumors are always about these days. According to a NASA website, there is supposedly a planet they are calling “ Planet X” lurking just outside of the planet orbit around the sun. NASA specialists have been surveying space with special cameras. Although they have not found “Planet X” yet, will NASA find this planet in the future? An Awesome Oscars Did you watch The Oscars on Sunday, March 2? They were absolutely awesome! The Oscars is an awards ceremony in which movies, actors, and actresses are awarded for different topics. Everyone dressed up and looked amazing! Did you know that Frozen won the award for the Best Animated film of the year 2013? Have YOU seen Frozen yet? The hottest singers were at The Oscars, and they preformed! They did their best yet! Many people were excited to receive their awards, as it meant that they had been successful in their carrier so far. Lets get ready for the next Oscars, in the year 2015! W O R L D A R O U N D U S ! G E N E S E O C O M M U N I T Y State Street Cafe Los Ranchetos Are you hungry and don’t have time for a home cooked meal? If so, come on down to State Street Café. The State Street Café serves only the best soups, salads, and sandwiches. It is located downtown near Pegasus. It is open on Fridays for dinner. The rest of the days are open for breakfast and lunch. So stop by, and enjoy some freshly cooked food. Hola mis amigos [hello my friends]! Do you want Athentic Mexican food but do not want to leave Geneseo? Then come on down to Los Rancheritos Mexican restaurant. In American, Los Rancheritos means, “look see”! And believe us, the food is bursting with flavors and colors. It is located near the Interstate 80 and Highway 82 intersection. Come on Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Raelynn’s Victorian Manor The aroma of burgers, the rustic scenery; does this familiar place ring a bell? You guested it, Raelynn’s pub and eatery! This restaurant is located near the First United Methodist Church. The food that they serve there is a mix of Italian and American flavors. Some of their most popular meals are burgers, pizza, and heavenly fries. When you try the food, you will be hooked for life! Do you like just hanging out with your family members? Victorian Manor is a place of leisure. This old Victorian home serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One of their specialties is, x-tra large pancakes. They serve many different varieties of everything! These food magicians have wonderful specials that are out of this world good. Go downtown to our wonderful downtown, and go to this old home and have a delicious meal. Cellar Do you want to give your parents a night of relaxation? Then go to the Cellar. They have great appetizers, dinner, drinks, and desserts. One rule is you can’t wear jeans. It is! a fancy and nice restaurant only in Geneseo. ! R E A D E R S The Hundred Dresses LIBRARY NEWS There are a lot of games on the Library Search. One of them is Fun Brain. That is where you can play various games or read online. Another game is called Don’t Wet The Bear! I won’t tell what it’s about so I don’t spoil the surprise! There are also three learn where the states are games. Enjoy those awesome websites! The Lions of Little Rock has two girls fighting segregation on their own. They only have the help from a few family members during their adventure through segregation. This book is by Kristen Levine. MARCH MADNESS S P O R T S March Madness has left-the biggest college basketball tournament of the year. There are lots of teams in the tournament. Here are a couple of them: Florida, Wichita State, Arizona, Duke and many more. Wichita State was favored because they went a perfect 34-0 in the regular season. Although March Madness is known for its upsets, the team most people were picking was Florida. The number 1 seeds going into the tournament were Florida, Wichita State, Arizona, and Virginia. Some upsets in the tournament were: Mercer beating Duke, Dayton beating Ohio State and Syracuse, and Stephen F. Austin beat VCU. More upsets were Harvard beating Cincinnati, and Kentucky beating Wichita State and Louisville. The teams in the final four were Florida, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and UConn. The teams that advanced to the National Championship were Kentucky and UConn. UConn ended up winning the Championship. UConn won for women’s and men’s March Madness. The NL MVP is predicted to be Bryce Harper. Who do you think will win the World Series? Olympics Recap The top 5 countries in the Olympics were Russia, USA, Norway, Canada, and Netherlands. Russia had 13 gold 11 silver and 9 bronze medals. USA has 9 gold 7 silver and 12 bronze medals. Norway had 11 gold 5 silver and 10 bronze medals. Canada has 10 gold 10 silver and 5 bronze medals. Lastly Netherland had 8 gold 7 silver and 9 bronze medals. Out of those top teams combined they got 131.
