P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from who no secrets are
hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may
perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess
our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
P: Most merciful God,
C: We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned
against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left
undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors
as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us,
renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the
glory of your holy name. Amen.
Opening Hymn
ELW 315
How Good, Lord, to Be Here!
Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be
with you all.
And also with you.
Prayer of the Day
Let us pray,
Almighty God, on the mountain you showed your glory in the transfiguration of your Son.
Give us the vision to see beyond the turmoil of our world and to behold the king in all his
glory; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
First Reading
Psalm 36:5-10
Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your
righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans
and animals alike, O LORD. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in
the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from
the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. O continue
your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Gospel
Luke 9:28-36
Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the
mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became
dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were
speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were
weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with
him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three
dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. While he was saying
this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the
cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” When the voice had spoken, Jesus was
found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you O Christ.
Sermon
Hymn of the Day
ELW 413
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the Church
Offering
Offertory
Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a
harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather
the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with
your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.
Words of Institution
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever
and ever. Amen.
