20th April to 22nd May Welcome back I trust you have all had an enjoyable and restful Easter break. Like all good parents I hope you helped your children eat the huge number of Easter eggs they received! Healthy Eating Now is rather an apt time to make a polite request that snacks being eaten by children during morning or afternoon break times should be of the healthy variety. Choose from options such as fruit, raw vegetables, raisins or bread sticks. Children are encouraged not to eat chocolate or crisps at break times. Eclipse The Eclipse was an amazing experience that all our children were able to enjoy. I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Knight for their time and scientific expertise – they worked with our Year 3 children who took light and wind measurements and recorded their findings. Year 4 Roman Assembly What an amazing performance. As I mentioned at the end of the assembly, the pupils have learnt so much about the Romans and used the topic as a stimulus for so many different subject areas. Your feedback comments were hugely positive and I have passed the sheets on to the Year 4 staff. Cross Country Thanks to the amazing talent and attitude of our children and some expert coaching from Mrs Driver, the Romiley Cross Country team has achieved enormous success over the past half term. This culminated in a FIRST place finish for the Year 3&4 Boys, Year 3/4 Girls and a third place finish for the Year 5/6 Boys in the Stockport Harriers event. Well done to all. Attendance (Term 2 2ndHalf) Reception = 97.6% Year 1 = 97.1% Year 2 = 97.3% Year 3 = 97.2% Year 4 = 96.1% Year 5 = 95.2% Year 6 =97.5% Whole School = 97.1% Holidays Like all Headteachers I receive a lot of requests to take children out of school during term time. I would just reiterate that I will not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. It is important to point out that this is not a personal viewpoint; instead it is a decision that is made in accordance with the DFE Guidance Document, ‘Advice on School Attendance February 2013.’ Dogs I have had a number of parents expressing concerns that dogs are sometimes being brought onto the school premises at the start/end of the school day. In the interests of child safety, please ensure your dog, (regardless of size), is kept off the school premises. Thank you for your support with this matter. Year 6 SATs As I am sure you are aware, Year 6 pupils across England will sit the Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) week commencing Monday 11th May. It is essential your child is in school on time to ensure they are as best prepared as possible. We want your children to give the best account of themselves that they can and will ensure they feel positive, confident and calm about the whole process. Charities Yet again the children have shown their generosity of spirit raising money for World Wildlife Fund, Christies Cancer Research and Ugandaid. They are stars and should be proud. 20th April to 22nd May House Captains Pupils were asked to vote for one girl and one boy from Year 6 to be their House Captains. Congratulations to Poppy D, Luke P, Gabriel B, Emily D, Ellie J, Cameron J, Jodie G, James C. I am sure they will all do a fantastic job. Parent View I would like to draw your attention to the Parent View website. This is available for all schools and gives you the chance to answer a set of questions regarding different aspects of your child’s school. The website can be found using the following link https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/ or Google ‘Parentview’ If you can spare the time I would be grateful if you could complete the set of questions. Sports Day Just to give you all advance notice, Sports Day will take place on Thursday 25th June, weather permitting. If we do have to cancel a reserve date of Thursday 9th July has been added. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will compete in the morning and Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in the afternoon. Important message re: After School Clubs We offer a variety of After School Clubs which the children clearly enjoy. On occasion Clubs may be cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens can I make it clear that at no point will your child ever be left unsupervised. Our standard procedure is that a member of staff will remain with the children until they are picked up by either yourselves, or their designated childcare provider. Dates for your diary Please check the Class Newsletter from your child’s class teacher for other dates and events. (These will be sent out on Thursday).
