“Verse in itself does not constitute poetry. Verse is only an elegant vestment for a beautiful form.
Poetry can express itself in prose, but it does so more perfectly under the grace and majesty of
verse. It is poetry of soul that inspires noble sentiments and noble actions as well as noble writings.”

3) Green Team
a) School Clean Up
LPCI is registered for the School Clean up through the City of Toronto on April 21 in the afternoon. The Green Team
will coordinate with classes who want to participate.
b) Garden Tools/Supplies Needed!
LP’s Green Team is looking for donations of garden tools/supplies (shovels, gardening gloves, spades, trowels etc.) for a
garden project we are working on in collaboration with LP's School Resource Officer. Our hope is to re-green and
beautify a small plot of land next to the bleachers for students to enjoy. Any donations of supplies can be brought to Ms.
Sud or Ms. Sparrow in the Canadian & World Studies office, room 105.
4) School Play 2017
This year the School Play: Departures and Arrivals will be performed on April 20th and 21st in the LPCI auditorium at
7pm. We will also be hosting Glenview for 2 matinees on April 21st during the daytime. Tickets for the evening
performances will be available for 10 dollars on school cash online and for 15 at the door both nights of the show. We
have a large cast of students both on stage and behind the scenes so come out and enjoy!
Synopsis
In 20 vignettes set in an airport departure and arrival lounge, the play captures a spectrum of travelers awakening to
contemporary limbo. Within the airport departure and arrival lounge, the seeds of change are planted by both the simplest
and most exotic travels, from the fantasies of a would-be widow with her insurance policy to Myra's and Wesley's lasting
vacation from loneliness.
5) OneMatch “Get Swabbed” Event (attachments 2 & 3)
The Science Department has coordinated with Canadian Blood Services' OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network to
run the "Get Swabbed" Event here at LPCI on Tuesday, April 25th from 11 am to 1:30 pm (Period B, lunch and Period C)
in the library.
Canadian Blood Services will be running its Annual Get Swabbed Campaign. Students and staff 17-35 years of age may
be able to register. The TDSB is pleased to partner with OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network of Canadian Blood
Services to look to young leaders in our schools to help save the lives of nearly 1,000 Canadians in need of a stem cell
donor.
Get Swabbed is designed to engage and recruit young potential stem cell donors. In collaboration with Canadian Blood
Services/OneMatch, high schools participate by holding a swab event where students will educate and register their peers
to the OneMatch Network.
This program is an integral part of the community commitment to ensuring Canadian patients have the ability to receive
their lifesaving stem cell to survive. Moreover, the program uniquely empowers our students to make a significant
difference in the lives of Canadian and international patients waiting for a stem cell transplant.
6) Invictus Games 2017
Toronto is hosting the Invictus Games this September. This initiative began 3 years ago in the UK by Prince Harry. LP
will be running an assembly day on Thursday April 27th to inform the students about the Games and the importance of
adaptive sport in the rehabilitation of wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans, and the unique challenges
our military families face. We are aware that the timing is tight for final term evaluations, but hope the advance warning
will allow teachers to plan for the shortened periods that day.
