LABELING A DIAGRAM
Read the description of the American range saddle.
Label the parts on the diagram.
At the front and top of the saddle is a knob called the POMMEL. Straps that hold the
saddle on the horse are cinches. There is a BACK CINCH and a FRONT CINCH. The
back part of the saddle that is curved upward is the CANTLE. Between the pommel
and cantle is the SEAT. The rider’s foot is supported by the STIRRUP. The stirrup is
attached to the saddle with a STIRRUP STRAP. A leather FLAP protects the horse’s
body from scraping by the stirrup strap. The saddle SKIRT rests on the horse’s back.
SADDLE STRINGS decorate the saddle skirt.
