Background
 What is “High Capacity Transit”?
 Why is it part of the current RTP?
– Limited ability to grow freeway capacity
– Impact of roadway expansion in existing developed (and
new) travel corridors
 Funding not currently identified for early
implementation
What Would the Task Force Do?
 Identify how high capacity transit would
support economic growth, mobility and quality
of life
 Identify which corridors would benefit most
– Likely to have benefits > costs
– Greatest opportunity and support for development
What Would the Task Force Do?
 Identify constraints and opportunities by
corridor
– Right of Way/Shared Corridor Redevelopment
– Environmental
– Community Impact/Economic Growth
– Public/Private Partnerships
What Would the Task Force Do?
 Review “Case Studies” from “Peer” Regions
– What was accomplished?
– How was it funded?
– How was support for funding developed?
 Complete “findings and recommendations”
report by August 2018
 Work cooperatively with Transit Providers
Task Force Composition
 A chair and two vice chairs appointed by TPC
– One representing transit providers,
– One representing the City of Houston,
– One representing areas outside the City of Houston
 Membership open to all TPC members and
transit providers
 Other key stakeholders (based on consensus of
Task Force officers)
Task Force Support
 Will not duplicate or replace work of TAC and
TAC Committees
 Will support work of RTP subcommittee
 Work team supported by H-GAC and other local
governments and agencies
