As we look to close the 2015-16 school year and prepare for the commencement of 2016-17
school year, Lincoln Middle School would like to Showcase our celebratory months of May and
June 2016! We wish you a safe and relaxing summer!
Academics:
Mrs. Kristen Lowe and Mrs. Barbara Marsden, co-advisors of the NJHS and Mrs. Carol Fishburn
who assisted with the NJHS this year held the NJHS Induction Ceremony which celebrated on
Tuesday, May 17th in a very special ceremony. Ninety- seven 8th grade students were
inducted into the National Junior Honor Society for their work in maintaining first and second
honors for three of the four quarters during the year and by meeting the five pillars of the NJHS;
scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. The ceremony was a wonderful
event for both students and their families. Candidates listened to inspiring words about their
accomplishments and future from Ms. Georgia Fortunato, Superintendent of Schools, Maryanne
Roll, Vice Chair of the Lincoln School Committee, Mrs. Heidi Godowski, LMS Principal and two
National Honor Society members from LHS, Delaney Cavanaugh and Makayla Lorenco. A
special thanks to Mrs. Lisa Dorherty for the wonderful video presentation that showcased the
candidates baby pictures and 8th grade pictures. Thank you also to Ms. Barbara Maher, LMS
Assistant Principal for assisting with the award presentation. The night was wonderful!!!
Congratulations to all who were inducted.
The 8th Grade Celebration Committee: Mrs. Sandi D'Angelo, Mrs. Jill Gould and Mrs. Christine
Mellor, together with the Awards Day Committee: Mr. David Clegg, Mr. Frederick Hoppe, Mr.
Denis Martel and Mr. Stephen Slattery, crafted a flawless 8th Grade Celebration held at the Twin
River Event Center on May 26th this year attended by over 550 students, family members,
faculty and staff. Eighty 8th grade students were honored at the Eighth Grade Celebration's
Awards Night with total of seventy-two students receiving the prestigious President's Award!
Awards were also given for outstanding achievement in all subjects as well as team awards. We
will certainly miss this group of students and wish them success in high school!
The annual LMS Spring Chorus Concert was held on May 12th directed by Mrs. Jean Birrell,
LMS chorus teacher. Chorus students truly shined as they sang spirituals, ballads, classics, and
selections from Broadway under a full house at the middle school auditorium. Mrs. Birrell
presented multiple end of the year awards at the close of the concerts. The “Most Outstanding
Musician” awards were presented to: Paige Moreau, Katherine Jahnz, Spiros Revis, Isabella
Russo, Meredith Trudeau, and Skyler Bragg with Nadyne Luchon receiving The “Musician of the
Year” award.
The LMS Spring Band Concerts were held on May 14th with the Advanced Band Concert held
on May 31st. The audience enjoyed student solos, duets, small group and whole band
collaborations to lively classics and one song written by Mr. Tom Casale, LMS band teacher.
Mr. Casale also presented multiple end of the year awards including the “Student of the Year”
awards presented to Gabrielle Mooney and Jack Ottaviano, with the “7th Grade Outstanding
Musician of the Year” awards presented to Christopher Relyea and Nathniel Surmeian and the
“6th Grade Outstanding Musician of the Year” awards presented to Kaydance Peckham and
Benjamin Sousa.
On June 3rd, 90 students from the advanced chorus sang while the students of the LMS band
played at the Great East “Trills and Thrills” Festival. The chorus received a gold medal for their
outstanding performance while the band received two awards of excellence. Both groups then
traveled to Six Flags New England for a fun filled day at the park.
Social/Civic:
PACT sponsored a School Family and Community Family Fun Night on May 6th at Lincoln
Middle School. This event featured The Carnival Company, otherwise referred to as the
“Carnival Lady” who set up over 30 GIANT games in the gym that included team building mazes
and puzzle games, miniature golf, the Operation Game, and balancing games to name a few.
In addition, food trucks from “O Crepe”, “Like No Utter” , and “Gotta Q”, were all the craze! It
was a fun night with great feedback that will definitely be repeated in the upcoming year.
Thank you to Jill Gould, Christine Mellor and Sandy D'Anglelo for organizing the 8th Grade
Social held on May 13h, as well as all of the 8th grade teachers for putting together an amazing
and memorable experience for the 8th grade students! Thank you to all that took the time to
help decorate for the dance as well as chaperone the Social. The cafeteria was enchanting and
the students looked spectacular and had a great time dancing and socializing!
Finally, the LMS Drama Club held the drama production "Legally Blond Jr." to a very well
attended audience on May 27th. The students did a great job in this musical! Thank you to
Mrs. Miele, out Drama Coach for all of her efforts! It was a fun evening seeing the students'
talents shine!
Athletics:
Thank you to all of the coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches of the LMS athletes
for making this year a spectacular year for them! Thank you parents for all of your support and
thank you, most especially, student athletes for all of your hard work and perseverance!
Softball: Coach Joseph Conti:
“The Lincoln Middle School girls softball team was made up of 17 girls from grades 6,7,8. This
special group of young ladies ALWAYS placed sportsmanship at the top of their goals. The
team finished the season with a second consecutive year season playoff opportunity .
This year’s softball team played hard and never went against their overall goal of being good
student athletes , placing sportsmanship before winning at all cost.
Coach Joe Conti stated that he was proud to be their coach.”
Baseball: Coach Zac Sailor:
“The Lincoln Middle School baseball team had a season to remember! They went undefeated in
the regular season and won their division!
In the playoffs, they beat Chariho in a 13 inning thriller and Ponaganset before losing 2-1 to
Curtis Corner in the semifinals.”
Great job!
Track and Field: Coach Yianiss Noel:
“The Lincoln Lions ended the track season in a great note. The girls team placed second in the
Northern division and fourth at the State meet. The boys team won the Northern division and
finished third at the State meet.
Leading the girls with strong performances were State Champion Jacquie Andrews in the shot
put with another school record, Serena Tuytschaevers and Esra Bequir who finished 3rd and
4th place in the Discus, Vanny Dafonseca 4th place in the Turbo Jav, Riley Specht state
champion in the 800 meters, 3rd place in the 400 meters and a member of the 1600 meters
relay who finished 6th with the help of Olivia Theroux, Tayla Salome and Yaritza Lara. For the
boys, Kyle Moison was the State champion in the shot put and Discus. Other performances
were Nick Gaitanis who placed 2nd in the 3000 meters, Spencer Smith 4th in the 1500 meters
and both were members of the 1600 meters relay with the addition of Dan Crawley and Josh
Jahnz whom were State champions with a mark of almost under 4 minutes.”
Unified Sports:
Coach Mike Bedrossian, Assistant Coaches; Kalli Hayter and Chris Morris:
“The unified basketball team at LMS has allowed our students with Disabilities to participate in
sports at an inter scholastic level. The experience for both our Players and the Partners on our
team has been extremely rewarding no matter what the outcome of the score may be. I'm
looking forward to another successful season next year!!” – The Unified Sports season ended
earlier in the spring.
