Directions: On the back of your organizer, copy the simple subjects and predicates
information.
Simple Subjects and Predicates
Every complete sentence has two parts : a subject and a predicate. The subject tells
who or what the sentence is about. The predicate tells something about the subject. The
simple subject is the noun or pronoun. The simple predicate is the verb that expresses
the action done by the subject.
Directions: Rewrite each sentence. Underline the simple subject once and
the simple predicate twice.
Example: The owner had never returned.
1. A beach ball rolled onto the baseball diamond.
2. Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers.
3. A book about vampires was missing.
4. Several people reported the accident.

The complete predicate of a sentence is the simple predicate verb plus the words
related to it.

once and the simple predicate twice.

A compound predicate is two or more verbs related to the same subject.

Examples: Trolls and ogres are fairytale creatures.

1. Trucks and buses may not use the left-hand lane.
