The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults This is a Sacred Rite in the Catholic Church for adults that are being called to the Catholic faith. This Rite would be for non-Catholics that are attending Mass, or wish to attend Mass, and for adults that were baptized yet never received their Sacraments beyond Baptism. If that’s you, or you know someone that’s shown an interest in our faith, please contact Dorothy Covell or Fr. Mark. 638-6718. Classes are held Sunday’s immediately following 10:30 Mass. Discovering Mary May was the month of Mary. Father Mark offered everyone a rosary so that you may pray the Holy Rosary this month. Would you like to discover more? Check out Discovering the Biblical Significance of Mary by Dr. Scott Hahn in our Lighthouse CD display. Dr. Hahn reveals incredible insights on the biblical basis for Catholic teachings on Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant. He clarifies misconceptions and clearly demonstrates how Catholic teachings are rooted in Scripture. We also carry the Holy Rosary on CD to help lead you in recitation of the rosary. All for just a $3 donation. Chicken BBQ/Yard Sale Wow, six days left before our Chicken BBQ/Yard Sale on Saturday June 7th. There are still things we need so please check out the table in the back of church and donate an item and/or your time. We could use the help of some of our strong young men as we still need help to carry things out of the basement in the morning and setting up. We also need help at 4:00 pm to tear down and put things away. Pre-sale tickets are still available. Someone will be in the back of church with Pre-sale tickets after the weekend Masses. They are $8.00 or buy your tickets the day of the BBQ for $8.50. Don’t miss out on this great BBQ. You can buy BBQ tickets in the Parish Office until Wednesday June 4th. Presale tickets must be turned in by Wednesday, June 4th before 3:00 PM to the Parish Office. Last day to bring in items for the yard sale is Friday, June 6th. For more info call Gail, 638-6294 or Bill Austin, 638-6320. We are still accepting gently used clothes, furniture, toys, bedding and anything else you’d like to donate. Please leave them at the back door of St. Mary Church, or if you have a large load, call the Parish Office (638-6718) so arrangements can be made to unlock the cellar door and help you unload. Donations for food and paper products need to be in by Thursday June 5th. There has been a donation of a few cases of Stanley Home Products 32oz. Degreaser. Regularly sells for over $9.00 per bottle on sale at the Yard Sale for $5.00 per bottle. That’s a great savings and a great product. When you stop in to shop and get a BBQ check it out! A big thank you to the person who donated this product! May 31 & June 1, 2014______ St. Mark, pray for us! Ascension Thursday The Church celebrated the Ascension of the Lord this past Thursday. Listed below are some questions and answers leading up to this great feast day for everlasting life. Through his Resurrection, did Jesus return to the physical, corporeal state that he had during his earthly life? The risen Lord allowed his disciples to touch him; he ate with them and showed them the wounds of his Passion. Nevertheless, his body belonged no longer only to this earth, but rather to the heavenly kingdom of his Father. The risen Christ, who bore the wounds of the Crucified, was no longer bound by space and time. He could enter through locked doors and appear to his disciples in various places in a form in which they did not recognize him immediately. Christ’s Resurrection was, therefore, not a return to a normal earthly life, but rather his entrance into a new way of being: “For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him” What changed in the world as a result of the Resurrection? Because death is now no longer the end of everything, joy and hope came into the world. Now that death “no longer has dominion” over Jesus, it has no more power over us, either, who belong to Jesus. What does it mean to say that Jesus ascended into heaven? With Jesus, one of us has arrived home with God and remains there forever. In his Son, God is close to us men in a human way. Moreover, Jesus says in the Gospel of John, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself” In the New Testament, the Ascension of Christ marks the end of forty days during which the risen Lord was especially close to his disciples. At the end of this time, Christ, together with his whole humanity, enters into the glory of God. Sacred Scripture expresses this through the images of “cloud” and “heaven” or sky. “Man,” says Pope Benedict XVI, “finds room in God.” Jesus Christ is now with the Father, and from there he will come one day “to judge the living and the dead”. Christ’s Ascension into heaven means that Jesus is no longer visible on earth yet is still present. (taken from YOUCAT) Pope Francis’s Prayer to the Holy Family Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel, and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection, and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen. ………………………………….. Catholic Charities Your generous support toward the 2014 Appeal goes a long way. Addie and Jason turned to Catholic Charities Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Program, an intensive family-focused intervention for delinquent youth ages 12-17, when they noticed trouble with their daughter. “My husband and I feel that MST is a wonderful program and we are grateful for all that it has done to improve our family and strengthen us as a team,” said Addie. If you have not already, please contribute to the 2014 Appeal so that families like Addie and Jason are able to receive the help that they need to be strong and empowered. Heart at work.
