PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Alastair has over 26 years experience as an architect. Most recently he was project architect for The Prime
Ministers Lodge Canberra and designed and performed construction attendance for the two guardhouses. His
previous projects encompass a broad range of clientele, both international and within Australia. Based in the
ACT for the last 18 years Alastair has the experience to be able to take a project from initial planning right
though to delivery during construction.
Alastair has extensive experience with construction standards and detailing having been involved in the material selection and detailing of all the buildings that he has been responsible for, these include; offices, lobbies for multi-story buildings in Australia, Chile, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, museums, hostels, schools, and
residential buildings both low and high rise over the last 20 years
In 2009 Alastair acted as Site Architect, supervising building works on the Edmund Barton Building the new
AFP Headquarters in Barton, a 5 Green Star Building. Alastair has an in depth knowledge of the building
process , environmental sustainability initiatives and a developed capacity to translate documentation into built
works.
As part of the BER programme 2009- 2010 Alastair co-ordinated design, documentation and services for 3
school extension projects, encompassing special needs classrooms and wet areas. These projects included;
Amaroo extension comprising 6 classrooms, multifunction space and COLA, Malkara Special school
comprising 3 classrooms and ablutions areas, Woden Special School, comprising 3 class rooms, corridor,
ramps and storage. During the construction of these projects Alastair also attended site as required and
provided construction details servicing the project management team and facilitating the building process.
In the Magna Carta Monument 2001 Alastair’s wining design was selected over 60 other entries from both the
UK and Australia . The initial design was documented and attended in construction while Alastair was principal
of his own architectural practice. The monument is a highly detailed and designed work of art that sits in a
landscape setting adjacent to old Parliament House and features a pavilion with a cast bronze cupola and wall
illustrating the history of the Magna Carta.
With extensive experience in theatre design and delivery, Alastair has managed a team of architects in Chile
designing multiplex movie cinemas for an American client in Santiago Chile and Buenos Aires. He also
designed and supervised the construction of theatres associated with the National Museum of Australia
(Visions digital theatre, Circa revolving theatre, Broadcast Studio as part of his larger role as architect stationed
on site
