I was fortunate to be a member of the cast when Pentacle Theatre last performed it in 2001. I had auditioned for the role of Belinda, and was thrilled—and terrified!—to be cast as Brooke instead. Of all of my theatrical experiences, both at Pentacle and elsewhere, this show is the one that stands out as the one that was the most fun to be a part of. Every single night was a joy to be onstage, and I am so privileged to be able to direct it this time around. Noises Off was created when playwright Michael Frayn watched a Susan Schoaps performance of his play, The Two of Us, from backstage. He said, “It was funnier from behind than in front, and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind.” Since its premiere in 1982, it has become a staple in theaters around the world. Often called the funniest play ever written, this show has it all. Doors, bags, boxes and sardines clash with temperamental directors, actors and stage crew. The challenges of this show are several. It is difficult to rehearse a show with eight doors and two levels in a rehearsal space with one level and no doors. Act II is mostly pantomime, which requires precise choreography of blocking and timing on the part of the actors. Each of the three acts (which we are performing as two acts) has very similar, but not quite the same, dialog. You can imagine the difficulty in remembering which of three slightly difPentacle Theatre’s ferent versions of the same line should be said Acting Workshop at which time! My cast and crew have worked hard, Join director and actress Jo Dodge in a through bad weather and illnesses, to bring fun, hands-on theater this show to life. I could not be more proud workshop exploring of them, and feel blessed to have worked with the human spirit. each and every one of them. I am confident that, just as I did 16 years ago, they will enjoy 11-Week Term—Only $105.00 every night of this production. I hope all of Location: Pentacle Theatre lobby you do as well!
