If you must be absent the day of an exam, please arrange to make it up ahead of the exam date. Arriving late, leaving early, and stepping out of the classroom affect your participation grade. Missing class means you receive no participation points for that day regardless of the reason for the absence. Please contact a classmate for information that you missed and review the day’s presentation in Canvas. Students who miss more than 6 absences may be administratively dropped. 3 tardies equal one absence. At the professor discretion, excessive tardiness may be counted as an absence. It is your responsibility to review the materials and homework for the upcoming class period. The assigned readings and homework are meant to give you information and practice on the topics that will be reviewed in class. Class time is for practice and application of what you studied. If you have questions or do not understand something, you need to notify me in advance so that I can help you. In class, I will be looking for your active and knowledgeable participation. You must be able to participate in an active and knowledgeable manner in order to receive full participation points each day. We will make extensive use of paired and group practices, so your ability to participate is essential. You are supposed to make mistakes so that you can see what areas you have dominated and which you still need to work on absorbing. Please see the Participation rubric for more details on grading. Your discussions must be posted online in Canvas by the start of the class period. Any late submissions will not be accepted. Be sure to carefully review all of the grading criteria in the rubric in order to receive full points. Discussions must be written in Spanish. This means you must compose in Spanish from the start and not write first in English and then translate. Translated material will not receive any credit. I want to see your authentic writing ability, so avoid consulting dictionaries or translators. iLrn houses your online workbook. Be sure to submit activities by the start of class on the due date in order to receive credit. Please be aware that iLrn does not currently have an app for mobile devices and is not very mobile friendly at this time. The designers are working on this issue. You will have two oral exams during the semester. There will be in-class practices before the exam date so that you can practice with different partners. Remember that the oral exam is about producing language on the spot and not rehearsing fully memorized scripts. Each person will receive individual grades. Cultural project Exams Other Pertinent Information Tobacco-Free Campus Course Calendar The cultural project will be turned in and evaluated online. You must turn in your work by the start of the class period. Work turned in late will not receive credit. Pay careful attention to the grading rubrics to know how you will be graded. There will be a total of three exams, each covering the material from two lessons. Due to the nature of language learning, all of the exams will be cumulative in nature even if the focus is on the two specific lessons. This means you are still responsible for remembering vocabulary, conjugations, and material from prior chapters for each exam. Grades: Your grades will be kept up to date in Canvas. I usually have work graded by the following class period. All grading rubics are available for view alongside assignment information so that you will know the criteria used to evaluate you. Technology: Remember that while Canvas is mobile friendly, iLrn is not quite there yet. You should plan to complete your online work from a computer. NCTC restricts the use of all tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic cigarettes, and smokeless tobacco on campus property.
