DESCRIPTION
The Bakers Arms is a traditional Town Inn situated in the centre of Launceston adjacent to the South Gate with its double
arches. An Inn has stood on this site for many centuries and over the years has served as a Civic meeting place, Hostelry
and a Theatre. Its position close to the South Gate made it an ideal venue for people entering or leaving the old town of
Launceston.
In 1747 the Inn was known as the Queens Arms and was used extensively by the town’s people for receptions and
entertainment. In 1772 the name was altered to the Kings Arms and in 1847 the building was completely remodelled to its
present layout, and was subsequently renamed The Bakers Arms.
The property now provides substantial trade space with the added attraction of seven letting bedrooms and good size owner’s
accommodation.
