File - Pinecrest Title One Family

Dear Parent,
Your student is continuing to receive additional reading instruction in a program called RAVE-O.
In Unit 4, your student is learning three new RAVE-O Town Tips. Illustrations of these tips are included with this
letter. Display these illustrations in a place that will help your student remember these important tips.
Ender Bender ing. When you add Ender Bender ing to the end of a word, it bends the meaning of the word a
little. Examples: lap, lapping; tag, tagging
Double Trouble Tip
When a rime pattern has only two letters and the Ender Bender starts with a vowel, stop and add a doubling
letter. Examples: jam, jamming; pat, patting
S-Car-Go! When adding Ender Bender s to words, just add the s and go! Examples: bats, laps, tags
In Unit 4, your student is learning the following Core Words: can, fan, cap, pad. Your student has been learning
the phonics (sounds and letters), spelling, meanings, and grammatical functions for these Core Words, as well
as reviewing Core Words from previous units. Included with this letter is a Minute Story that contains some of
these Core Words. Each one of RAVE-O’s fun, whimsical stories has an important purpose in reinforcing key skills
and concepts that will help your student grow as a reader.
Please do the following:
1. Ask your student to read the story to you. Ask your student to talk about new words and meanings that
have been learned and to use them in sentences.
2. Compliment your student for his or her reading practice. Have fun reading with your student!
3. Sign your name at the bottom of the story, and have your student return it to school the next day.
Thank you for being a partner in working with me to help your student become a better reader.
Sincerely,
