Pastor’s Letter
Dear Parishioners:
We congratulate the leadership core team at St. Ann’s Catholic Church for organizing a wonderful event to celebrate the par-
ish’s patron (Saint Ann) with an outdoor’s Mass for the whole parish for this special feast day. We had many parishioners who
came to join us and we had a prayerful celebration with the Eucharist in thanking the Lord for the year’s blessing and to ask
God to continue to bless upon our parish for the year to come. We thank all of those who were involved with this celebration’s preparation. As you well know, without your support and help we do not have a meaningful celebration. May the patron St.
Ann continue to bless upon us!
Summer is a wonderful time for us to celebrate various events, such as birthdays of those who are a long time parishioners
from our regional parishes. We have many parishioners who are passed 90 years old and a few 100 years old. We thank their
families who joined them in celebrating their life and we thank them for coming to the Faith Community to celebrate with us.
May the Lord continue to bless upon all of those who celebrate their birthday during this summer time and we also congratulate
those who celebrate their anniversary (religious vows and marriage vows). May the Lord continue to bless upon their vocation
and may they continue to find happiness in their vocation!
We have a wedding celebration each weekend from our regional parishes for this month. We congratulate those couples that
are getting married this month. May you continue to witness your vocation of a Christian family to love and care for each
other, so the world can know what true love is from how you live your life each day as witness of God’s love to the real world!
We thank the core team who assists us in preparing those couples who are making their vows and have asked us to pray for
their marriage vocation.
We congratulate the entire students who graduated this summer and may you find the job in the field you enjoyed studying for.
We are proud to inform you on the Eucharistic Youth Leader who had their convention at St. Michael in Olympia, WA. They
have elected their new leadership team after their conference. We thank those who served on the previous leadership team and
we congratulate the new elected leadership team for this region. May the Lord continue to bless upon you for your ministry for
the youth!
There are few projects that we would like to inform you, so you are able to assist us with. The Religious Education building
project at St. John of the Woods’ Church has different stages of work. We removed the old windows and frames and installed new windows, and we need to have new frames installed before we can commence to paint the exterior of the building. We
spend a lot of time to make our Church’s ground look nice with flora (plants, flowers) during the summer time. The parish staff is working on the Parish Annual Report to send in before August 15th to the Archdiocese and they will work on the Parish
Annual Report to the parishioners, and we are planning to send this out in October before the Stewardship Campaign in November. We are supporting the youth group for their car washing Fund Raising for their Convention and we thank you for your
generous support with this event to support their ministry. We are working with the Long Range Plan Implementation core
team, and we meet during the summer time to support them to work on different areas that need it, so we have a good report for
you when you are back. We are supporting the core team on the Multi-cultural feast at St. John of the Woods’ Church, which is planned for August 16th after the 5:30 PM Mass followed with a Dinner from 6PM to 10:00PM. You do not want to miss this
opportunity to have this special meal with your family. You do not need to travel long distances to have this experience to try
authentic food from various cultures (i.e Pacific Island and other ethnic groups) that will share their cultural food with us on
this night. We met with the Pastoral Council candidates at Sacred Heart’s Church after their discernment process, and a new group of leadership will be formed and ready to assist us in September. We also formed a committee to study the facility of the
School Building at St. Ann Parish and will assist us to clean and organize the rooms for different groups and ministries to use
when the CCS (Catholic Community Service) moves out.
Deacon Tim is leaving us soon after his CPE program is completed. We thank him for his ministry as Deacon at St. John of the
Woods (he assists on the weekend). He will be going to Rome for his final year in the Seminary and complete his formation
before being ordained to the Priesthood of Christ to serve God’s people in the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon. Cody will be
going back to Mt. Angel Seminary after his CPE is completed. We thank you for your continued support of our seminarians
and praying for them.
We welcomed many guests throughout the summer time. They are bishops, priests, religious sisters and brothers from other
countries who have come to visit their relatives and friends who are parishioners of our regional parishes. It was a joy to meet
with them and to show them around our parishes (all the ministries our parishes offer). They all appreciate the hospitality and
generosity that we offered to them. They have asked me to thank you and our Faith Community for sharing the unconditional
love of Christ in the Sacraments that we celebrate and the words of Christ is alive in our actions.
May you continue to have a joyful summer with peace and love!
Sincerely Yours in Christ,

The beginning of summer marks the start of
the wedding season whether in a church setting or a garden. In recent times, a popular
item has been added to the wedding ceremony: the wedding candle also referred to as the unity candle.
Because of its overpowering presence, some couples think that
the wedding candle is an integral part. However, this symbol is
not part of the Catholic Church's marriage rite. Some even regard
it as an intrusion and an overburdening into the ceremony itself.
A quick look at the USCCB web site states that the wedding candle is not prohibited but suggests another solution. The wedding
candle may become more important than the Paschal Candle
should that still be in the Sanctuary. This "symbol" could be used
as part of the wedding reception with a special table place. Used
at the wedding banquet, rather than during the liturgy, it can be
an effective reminder of what happened in church. There are
many suggestion as to how this can be set up including placement of the wedding candle, the lighting with 2 side candles and
a blessing! All of this would be at the table where the bride and
groom would be sitting. The bride and groom would light the
candle with the 2 side candles. The symbolic meaning of the 2
flames becoming one, would represent their commitment to each
other as well as their union with God. For those planning a future
wedding, why not consider giving the banquet incorporation a
try. The effect might be surprising!

Eusebius was born on the island of Sardinia,
Italy, around 283. His parents were dedicated
Christians. It is believed that his father died a martyr. Eusebius was always active in the Christian community. He
was called to serve the people of Rome and then went to
northern Italy, to Vercelli. He was chosen to be the first
bishop of Vercelli. He and some of his priests lived a common life modeled on a monastery. The priests received
wonderful preparation for growing in the spiritual life.
They also learned how to direct other people who would
come to them for guidance. The priests trained by St. Eusebius became fervent and happy ministers of Jesus. Many
were ordained bishops.

We are a people of God unified in His love. As a Roman Catholic community, we are faithful to Jesus’ teachings and our Sacred Catholic Tradition. Our devotion to the Lord comes from the Liturgy, the Sacraments and multiethnic people who
embrace our community and welcome all newcomers. We foster the unique expressions of each culture and honor the gifts
they bring. Through our commitment to Christ’s Commandments, we provide an environment that will foster spiritual growth and reflect Jesus’ love for all in our community. Mass Intentions

Me pidieron
