Year 4: The Rainforest During this topic the children will learn about the Rainforest. As Geographers, the children will be learning about the areas and climates of rainforests throughout the world. In particular, they will focus on South America and the human and physical features of Brazil. In RE, the children will be focusing on Christianity and the Easter story. They will consider how Christians believe that Jesus’ life, death and resurrection teaches about forgiveness. Home Learning: As independent learners, we would like the children to create a rainforest poster, to display in class. It will need to include producers (plants found in the rainforest) and consumers (animals found in the rainforest). Please encourage your child to use a range of media to create their designs (e.g. paint, collage). In order to be displayed alongside the topic, please complete by Friday 18th March 2016. As Scientists, the children will be learning about food chains. They will identify producers, predators, and prey and they will link this to consumers. As Artists, the children will be using a range of media to create artwork based on the theme of rainforest creatures. Curriculum Drivers Astro Aspiration: Our Jigsaw topic this half-term is ‘Healthy Me’. The children will be encouraged to consider how they can achieve a healthier lifestyle. Rizzy Respect: During this topic, the children will consider the importance of respecting the Earth’s rainforests. In Jigsaw, they will also reflect on Article 24, ‘Children have the right to good quality health care, to clean water, to nutritious food and a clean environment.’ Planet Belonging: The children will learn about trade links from rainforests in South America to here in the UK.
