Fourth Sunday of Easter
Sunday Reflection
Solving Life’s Problems
There was once a man who spent days putting together
a jigsaw puzzle that contained 5,000 pieces. After working
on the puzzle every night for two months, he finally got the
entire puzzle together, except for one piece. It turned out
that the box containing the puzzle had only 4,999 pieces.
There was one crucial piece missing! And because it was
missing, his puzzle was never complete.
Have you ever felt as though there was one crucial piece that is
missing from your life? Have you ever felt as though the problems of
this life are too much to bear? Have you ever felt lost and didn't know
which way to turn? If so, Jesus invites you this day to join His flock and
to follow Him. He tells us today that He is the answer, He is the
solution, and He is the missing piece that will make your life complete.

Vocations
Stewardship Reflection
The sheep follow him because they know his voice. (John 10.4)
Whose voice do you know? Where can you hear the voice of Jesus?
How do you learn to recognize it?
Youth Corner
What is a priest?
An ordained priest shares in a special way in the
ongoing work of Jesus Christ in the world. A priest
offers his life for the service of the People of God and
to be an instrument of the grace of God, touching and
transforming the lives of people. He is a proclaimer
of the Gospel, the word of life and hope. He is a
teacher of the truth; in preaching and instruction he
presents the way of life that Jesus taught. He is the
means by which the power of God's Spirit comes into
and changes the lives of people. Through the
ministry of the priest Christ is made present and
active in people's lives.

Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk
Good Shepherd Sunday is the day we celebrate vocations to
the priesthood and religious life, and pray that God might send
more labours into the fields. Sadly in our day and age we are
very short of labours. Parishes that used to have two or three
priests now survive with one. Many priests are from another
country and may not even speak English very well. Some
parishes don't even have a resident priest and are
administered by a lay person - not that this is bad. Sometimes
it is a blessing, but the lay person cannot hear confession or
give the Sacrament of the Sick. Parishes that used to have
four or five sisters are now lucky to have one and are truly
blessed if sister is under 50 years of age. So what has
changed?
God is still calling young men and women to help in the
fields but are we helping them to hear the call? A young man
who I thought had a calling to the priesthood and even talked
about being a priest came to me one day to tell me that he
could not see himself being a priest because people are not
nice to the priest. They talk behind his back, make fun of how
he speaks or sings - they don't respect him. My response to
him was, “But that happens to many people not just the priest.”
His response to me was very profound, "But Father, the priest
was chosen by God to lead the people, why don't we trust
God's choice?”
The reasons for young people not listening to God's call are
many, but the reason to follow Him is a very simple one: "I
have called you by name and you are mine." Every time I feel
the struggles, I remind myself who it is I belong to. They
crucified my “boss”. I think I can handle a few slings and
arrows cast my way. The greatest day in my life was the day I
laid on the floor of St. Mary’s Cathedral and said yes to God.
I heard His call and of my own free will I placed myself at
God’s service. Sadly most people have no idea what joy that
brings to a person. According to a US survey, priests and
religious are the happiest people in North America. Times can
get tough but I am on Jesus' team and Jesus always
wins.
Peace Fr. Kevin
