Entry 10: End of week 7, 13/01/17 Main works
Works are progressing quickly after the Christmas break, we have a new subcontractor on board and they’re raring to go !
We also have a new piece of kit on site… The BROKK, a remote controlled robot that
will carry out the removal of the floor slabs within the building.
Van Elle is continuing with their drilling works, this is a large area so patience is
required.
MTL is back on site and has erected a bird cage in the old shop fronts, this is to allow
Thompson’s to start and the remove roof slab on the East elevation, with the original
facade still in situ this is delicate work requiring care and attention, therefore, these
works will be done by hand.
Thompson’s have removed the shop fronts which are to be replaced with new
construction, they have also removed the wooden flooring in the west shop front to
allow the BROKK breaker in to remove the floor slab.
The Shaws team are new on site, they are our masonry specialists. They have set
about forming new door openings in some areas and bricking up existing openings in
others.
Robot Wars – Robertson Style
Say hello to the latest member of our team,
‘The BROKK’
No, ‘The BROKK’ is not a cast off from Robot Wars but a very robust
clever piece of kit.
He enables the safe removal of hard surfaces such as concrete slabs in
areas which may otherwise be inaccessible to operatives, all this is done
by remote control.
He can even travel up and down stairs with his caterpillar treads, Daleks
can’t even manage stairs !
The rig hard at work on the
West elevation.

The shop fronts have been
removed, great care was taken
to remove some of the original
concrete works as they weren’t
very secure
Shaws have formed new openings and
closed old ones off.
