freshman year, he was inducted into Alpha Beta Gamma, International Business Honor Society and was
on the National Dean’s List. He was later selected as a laureate scholar for the International Delegation
of Business with the opportunity to study abroad in Australia, China, or Central Europe. It was his dream
to graduate VU and continue his studies at Indiana University.
Bart and his family were very instrumental in getting the Eastern Greene Varsity football program and the
community league started at Eastern. The scholarship established in his name will help to commemorate
the love Bart had for football and the true character that he displayed both on and off the football field.

JORDAN LYDAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The parents of Jordan Lyday established the Jordan Lyday Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2007 to honor
a graduating senior from Shakamak High. Jordan’s mother, Jill, writes of her son:
When I think of Jordan, my first thought is always of Jordan’s sense of humor. His hunting and fishing
tales were related as side-splitting adventures. His stories from work were comparable to a sit-com. And
while I enjoyed watching him play ball, listening to his version of the game on the ride home was the best
part of the day. He always made me view the game in a completely different light.
I also think of how versatile Jordan was. His friends ranged in age from 7 to 70. Jordan enjoyed fishing
and several types of hunting, as well as baseball, basketball, football, boxing and pool. One summer he
worked for a contractor, the next on a cattle farm, and then in a grocery store. Jordan put a lot of effort
into whatever he tried, and felt that if he had done his best, the endeavor was a success.
I think of Jordan and his car. At the age of 14, Jordan traded his 4-wheeler for a ’69 Camaro rolling
chassis. He spent the next 2 ½ years restoring this car. Jordan did all the work himself, except for the
paint job. He participated in car shows and enjoyed listening to the experiences of the other owners.
In addition, I think of all the stories I heard after Jordan died from people who wanted me to know that he
had helped them. Most of these stories were known only to the person involved and Jordan. These acts
of kindness didn’t involve a lot of money and on an individual basis may seem insignificant. Yet, viewed
as a whole, they made me realize how much one person can enhance his own life by enhancing
another’s life. My hope is that Jordan’s scholarship will honor this spirit by enriching the lives of others as
Jordan did during his lifetime.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Graduating senior from Shakamak High School who has attended Shakamak High School for four years.
