Children learn basic academic skills such as pre-reading/pre-writing, pre-math, in addition to recognizing letters, their names and the names of simple items using labels in a warm, fun-filled environment. Children make arts & craft projects and are introduced to Leveled Reader books which parents can read to them at home. Child must be fully potty trained and 3 yrs. old at the time of enrollment. School of Life Skills, Citizenship & Leadership Babysitter Certification: Ages 12-18, Free of charge, Mon & Tues, 9th & 10th Jan, 4:30pm – 6:30 pm, SKIES bldg. 6100 Chesnut Rd. Training includes leadership development, safety, safe play for different ages and stages, basic hygiene, infant care, and how to respond to an emergency. Youth must complete all class requirements and pass the CPR/First Aid exams. Hip-Hop (Dance Combo): Ages 4-6, $45/per month, Tues 5:15-6:00 SKIES Bldg. 6100, Hip-Hop is the most contemporary dance form, and is a very fast paced, athletic dance style. The combinations taught in this class are age appropriate (G-rated).This class develops the strength, flexibility, rhythm, leaps, turns, balance, and safe body mechanics to dance confidently in a social atmosphere. This style of dance is known for fast, athletic movements and body isolations, unlike the fluid movement of ballet. Hip-Hop is extremely popular, and can be seen in commercials, music videos and concerts. Girls should be dressed in black Capri length stretch pants and tennis shoes. Boys should be dressed in something that does not restrict movement, and tennis shoes. No skirts or blue jeans, please. Long hair should be pulled away from the face. Winter 2017 January - April Registration and Enrollment SKIESUnlimited classes are open to dependents of Active Duty Military, National Guard, Reserve, DoD Civilians, employees of Department of Defense Contractors working on Fort Jackson and Retirees. Children/youth must first be registered with Child, Youth and School Services to enroll in a SKIESUnlimited class. Please contact Parent Central at (803) 751-4865/4824 for assistance in registering for CYS and enrolling in a SKIESUnlimited class. Once registered, sign up may be handled on line at: https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/Jacksoncyms.html Transportation If your child/youth is enrolled in a CYS full day or extended hours program, or Middle School Teen programs, and you cannot transport them to the class you are interested in having them attend due to your work hours, please complete a Transportation Authorization form prior to signing up and submit to Parent Central, If transportation can be arranged, you will be contacted to sign up for the class. Class Waiting Lists When new classes are added, a wait list is maintained until the minimum enrollment is reached. Parents are notified when enough children/youth have signed up to start the class. Fees may be prorated, if applicable. Not sure if this class is for your child? All classes may be previewed by the parent and child participation is allowed, with the exception of swimming classes. A new student considering enrollment in any classes may participate in one class at no cost. Fee Policy Fees are due at the time of enrollment for classes with a limited time frame. For on-going classes, the first month’s fee is due at the time of enrollment. Billing will be set up to bill your household no later than the 25th of the month and fees must be paid by the last working day of the month, for the following month. Billing will continue indefinitely unless you submit a written withdrawal notice. Withdrawal notices should to be turned in two weeks in advance of last day of attendance if possible. Tennis isn’t the easiest sport for young children to learn, but if you start kids right, they’re likely to be lifelong players. The key, not surprisingly, is to make sure they’re having fun by ensuring they experience success. Wheelchair tennis classes also available upon request. Classes are ongoing year-round. Student must bring a water bottle with water only, and a towel. First Tee Golf: Ages 5-18 yrs., Free, Fort Jackson Golf Course, .Semmes Road. Equipment is provided by First Tee for the lessons. Classes are cancelled in inclement weather.
