Week of October 24, 2016

Dear Parent:
The first quarter ends on Friday. Report cards will come home with your
child on Friday, November 4th. Look for a special note to come home
regarding parent-teacher conferences.
The following activities have been planned for this week:
RELIGION
The class will study the Ninth and Tenth Commandments. The MEMORY
WORK assignments for the week are: Tuesday – #61 and #63, Thursday –
Appendix 2 #7, and Friday – #62. These can be found in the Memory Book.
LITERATURE
Grade 6: A quiz on “Stray” will be given on Wednesday. The next reading
selection includes the poems: “Dust of Snow,” “My Picture Gallery,” and
“Saying Yes.”
Grades 7-8: A quiz on “Charles” will be given on Tuesday. The next selection
is an excerpt from the memoir of Maya Angelou entitled I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings.
MATH
Math 6: The class will have a test on Chapter 2 on Friday. The class will
begin adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals this week.
Course 2: The class will take a quiz on the first part of Chapter 3 on
Thursday. The class will begin adding and subtracting rational numbers this
week.
Algebra: The class will continue writing and solving equations as well as
beginning to factor polynomials.
SCIENCE
The class will describe the function of each section of the ear and identify
the causes of hearing loss.
ENGLISH
Grade 6: The focus of study this week will be on singular, plural, and
possessive nouns.
Grade 7: A test on Unit 2 will be given on Thursday. The formal study of
verbs will begin on Friday.
Grade 8: A quiz on the first part of Unit 2 will be given on Wednesday. The
rest of the week will be spent studying singular and plural nouns.
GEOGRAPHY
The class will learn about how Russia’s government has changed since 1991
and the struggles that lie ahead in the future for its government.
SPELLING
There will be no spelling this week.
