Geography – Rainforests around the world
(Amazon)
NC – To extend their knowledge of the world’s
most significant human and physical features.
Children will identify the areas of the world
containing rainforests. They will learn about the
key aspects of a rainforest climate and
understand the layers of a rainforest.
They will look in detail at the animals and plants
that live in the rainforest and they will compare
the Amazon Rainforest to that of Sherwood
Forest. Lastly, children will look at the effects
humans are having on rainforests.

PSHE, RE and British Values
RE – People of Faith. (Inspirational famous
people, beliefs of these people)
PSHE – Good to be me. (Children will look at
their strengths and weaknesses and discuss
what they could do when problems occur in
life.)

The Rainforest
Why are rainforests important to us?
Where in the world can rainforests be

Computing.
NC – To design, write and debug programs that
accomplish specific goals, including solving problems
by decomposing them into smaller parts.

Children will use the program ‘Scratch’ to write
and debug their own program. They will learn
to use sequence and repetition and also work
with variables.
Art & Design –
NC – To develop techniques, including their
control and their use of materials, with creativity
and experimentation.
Children will explore rainforest art and look at the
work of some famous artists including, John Dyer
and Nixiwaka, who is part of the Yawanawá
Tribe in the Amazon rainforest. Children will
create some bright and colourful masterpieces
while perfecting their artistic techniques.

Final Outcomes
Each class will create a rainforest within their
class displaying lots of their learning as well as
a rainforest scene. (Parents and Year 3 will be
welcome to visit!)
Rainforest art focusing on 3D awareness and
collage.
Projects on the rainforest.
Science- Living things and their habitat.
NC – To classify, recognise, group, and explore
living things in their local and wider environment.
Children will group living things in a range of ways
and learn about vertebrates and invertebrates.
They will learn to represent data in a table using a
key and they will learn to recognise positive and
negative changes to the local environment.
They will then research and find out the impact
that environmental dangers have to endangered
species.
English – Talk for Writing
This term children will be continuing to work with
the Talk for Writing scheme. They will look at a
selection of different and exciting texts and
explore these in more detail.
Activities will include:

• And lots more!
Maths
This term children will be learning lots of different
topics in Maths.
These topics will include:
• Addition & Subtraction.
• Statistics.
