Maple Street School February 2016 MAPLE STREET SCHOOL We Are The BEARS Attendance, Attendance, Attendance! Let’s continue to keep our attendance rates high. Regular attendance in elementary school sets up a good pattern for children’s entire school career. Show your child that school comes first by trying to keep days off for illness and family emergencies only. School begins at 8:07 am. Any student arriving after 8:07 must report to the office for a tardy slip. Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:05 Recess Students go outside for recess if the temperature is above 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Please make sure children are dressed appropriately. Label all coats, hats and gloves. NWEA- MAP Students in grades K-5 just completed their NWEA MAP winter assessment. Students take this assessment three times per year, (fall, winter and spring) with the exception of kindergarteners who only take the assessment in the winter and spring. This assessment helps teachers individualize instruction, set achievement goals for students and the class, understand achievement patterns and evaluate student performance. We are so proud of all the hard work and effort that our students put into the assessment. So many students made remarkable gains. MAP reports will be sent home and discussed at parent/teacher conferences. Lost and Found Is your child missing any clothing items? If so please visit our lost and found. We have numerous coats, sweatshirts, hats and gloves. The lost and found is located in the cafeteria. If there is a change in how your child is dismissed the office must receive written notification. Students who walk or are parent pick up are dismissed at the back of the school at 2:41. Please be on time. The parent/child care provider will sign the student out with the teacher. Please remember to bring identification. This is for the safety of your child. At times, emergencies may happen, please call the office before 2:00 to let us know of any changes. Fun Activies for Snowy Days Build a Living Room Campsite Kids love when their parents flip normal household routines upside down. Creating a campsite in the living room is the perfect way to take them by surprise! Turn out the lights, wear PJs, bust out the sleeping bags and sit around telling stories or reading stories. If you don't have a tent, be creative and build a fort using blankets, couch cushions and pillows. Hide marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers in the pantry for snow day s'mores. Whip up Snow Cones After playing in the snow with the kids, gather up clean, freshly fallen snow and bring it inside. Divide it into cups and pour lemon juice and a little sugar or frozen juice concentrate over each and you and the kids can enjoy some scrumptious homemade snow cones.
