General Weather Situation over the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) 23 June 2013 General Condition: On June 23 2013 at 01.00 am Local Cambodia Time (LCT), the latitude from 00N to 280N and the longitude from 900E to 1250E, the Tropical Storm (TS) “BEBINCA” over the Bay of Tonkin, about 300 Kilometers East of Hanoi, Vietnam or latitude 19.00N and longitude 108.0 0E with maximum sustained wind near the center about 65 km/hr. The TS is moving west-northwestward about 18 km/h (Figure 1). During June 23-25, the Tropical Storm (TS) “BEBINCA” will move to the South China and expected to make landfall over Nanning, China on 24 June. Scattered rain showers with isolated heavy rain will be likely in some areas in the South of Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia while heavy rain ad very heavy rain fall with gust will be most likely in many areas in the North of Lao PDR and Viet Nam. The strong wind waves are expected about 2.0-3.0 meters high in the Andaman Sea and about 1.0- 2.0 meters high in the upper Gulf of Thailand. The Southwesterly wind prevails over Myanmar, Thailand and Indochina Peninsular at 01.00 am (LTC) on 23 June, 2013(Figure 3). During June 23-25 2013, rain will be likely in many areas in the South of Myanmar, the Central the west and the East of Thailand, the Central and the North of Lao PDR and Viet Nam, the North, the Northeast and the Southwest Coast of Cambodia (Figure 4) Figure 4: The prognosticative maps issued at 12:00 UTC on June 22, 2013 for 72hrs forecast Source: Hong Kong Observatory Conclusion: Severe Weather Situation The Tropical Storm (TS) “BEBINCA” over the Bay of Tonkin, about 300 Kilometers East of Hanoi, Vietnam or latitude 19.00N and longitude 108.0 0E with maximum sustained wind near the center about 65 km/hr. The TS is moving west-northwestward about 18 km/h. The trough of low pressure system lies across Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Viet Nam at the height of 1.5km (850 hPa). On June 23-25 2013, the Tropical Storm (TS) “BEBINCA” will move to the South China and expected to make landfall over Nanning, China on 24 June. As the result of these phenomena, it will bring scattered rain showers with isolated heavy rain will be likely in some areas of Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia while heavy rain ad very heavy rain fall with gust will be most likely in many areas in the North Lao PDR and Viet Nam during 23-25 June 2013. The strong wind waves are expected about 2.0-3.0 meters high in the Andaman Sea and about 1.0- 2.5 meters high in the upper Gulf of Thailand while the strong wind waves are expected about 3.0-4.0 meters high in the upper northeast South China Sea during 23-24 June 2013. Warning: People lives in the North of Lao PDR, the Central and the North of Viet Nam beware of very heavy rain and gust. All ships in the Andaman Sea, the upper Gulf of Thailand particularly in the upper Northeast South China Sea should take with caution during 23-24 June 2013.
